Obama Calls Eagle’s Owner And Thanks Him

He didn’t have to go there. But, he did. He went there anyway.

(Stupid Celebrities)

Barack Obama applauded the Eagles for giving Michael Vick a second chance.
If you are not sure if this was a good idea or not, check out the comments here.
Pro Football Talk reported:

Though the Eagles didn’t have a chance to make news on the field tonight, they made some more news off the field.

Peter King of NBC reported during Football Night in America that President Barack Obama recently called Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to congratulate the team for giving quarterback Mike Vick a second chance.

President Obama explained that a level playing field rarely exists for prisoners who have completed their sentences. Vick’s success gives all of them hope.

Obama better hope that Vick keeps his nose out of trouble… At least for another two years.

For the record, I like watching Vick play football. But was it a good idea for the president to insert himself into this controversy?… No.

That is, until Jim Hoft deleted what he said.

Jim, you lost a lot of my respect. A guy who tortured and killed animals deserves NOTHING. Not a job, not a future, and certainly not a multi-milliion dollar contract to play football.

Don’t know that Vick came from one, but there are precious few pets in a ghetto where animals are either pests, food or livestock and the only love you get comes from yo’ momma. It takes education to appreciate an animal as love source/object.

As for Vick being Obama’s poster boy for second chances, in Obama-world, as we all know, a felony rap is a feather in the cap.

Christian forgiveness doesn’t mean that you throw away your common sense. Let’s say Vick was a child molester. If he did his time and was truly repentant, you still wouldn’t let him have unmonitored access to children.

He should be able to get on with his life now, but I still don’t think he should be allowed to own a dog.

Wait a minute, I’m wrong. Apparently Bo has just released a prepared satement.

“While we don’t have all the facts yet, it’s clear my owner acted stupidly in yet again, needlessly interjecting himself into a racially charged issue. Clearly there is a short history in this country of black men training and using vicious dogs as a sort of badge of masculinity, no doubt in compensation for their history of degradation in the pre Civil Rights era.

But this unfortunate history cannot be used to whitewash cruel and inhumane treatment of members of the Canine American community. On the other hand, I would like to point out that unlike Sarah Palin, who glorifies the murder of a member of the reindeer community, Michael Vick has apologized and paid a debt for his maltreatment of animals

I look forward to working with my owner and president in moving toward a more nuanced balancing of these two competing interests.

Before a lot of you start talking about second chances and did his time crap do a little research on how a dog fighting operation is run then feel free to give that sociopath Vick another chance.

@Juggs – dude back off of Matt. We’re all here to express our opinions – including you – not to sling crap on each other and belittle each other.

It’s good that Vick did his time, and good for him that he seems to be leading a better life. There is no way however, that he would have had these chances if he wasn’t in sports and if he didn’t have his notoriety. If he was a regular dude coming out of jail, he would have been SOL – just like every other ex-prisoner – black or white. The difference with Vick is that he killed dogs. No, not people; but dogs are still living things that feel pain and this is what makes Vick no better than a thug. There is no reason or justification for him to get special kudos or pats on the back because he can run fast and throw a football.

Second, I think Michelle needs to give up some of her staff and hire some MORE handlers for Obama – who clearly doesn’t understand shit about his job and his responsibilities. Who cares what he thinks about Michael Vick? He can’t even get up to a podium and address something difficult without assistance – or lately Bill Clinton. Just walk up, introduce Bill and then leave to go to a Christmas party? Unbelievable…..

Personally, I hope Vick has nightmares for the rest of his life. As far as I’m concerned his debt to animals will never be repaid.

I always suspected that Obama did not like dogs or maybe even animals in general. He got Bo because his daughters wanted a dog – he took forever to pick one and broke his promise to get a shelter dog. On top of which his ego is so big the dog is named for him. Vick did his time but what he did was so enormously cruel – this was not a “mistake” or a misunderstanding or poor upbringing but the acts of a sociopath. There are loads of sociopaths who serve their time and go back out to society- even child molesters or certain sex criminals can get released but that does not mean they are now angels, even if they play great football.

I have to commend the brilliance of blacks in the US political arena. As a group, they are only 13% of the population, the poorest, least educated, most criminal, most violent, most costly least taxable, and least useful segment of the entire population. And yet, they have power far beyond their proportion in politics and the entertainment industries. They’ve figured out the secret to minority power.

    1. Hold whites to impossibly high and unattainable standards of behavior, and never stop harping on them.

    2. Hold blacks to literally no standard at all. Label anyone a racist or a race traitor (if they’re black) should they ever call on blacks to live by the same standards of decency and intellectual achievement as anyone else or even a modicum of anything coming close to a standard of decent behavior.

All animal lovers and anyone with a shred of decency should boycott all Eagles games. I refuse to finance Mike Vick. He should be forever barred from playing any professional sports.

Did Mike Vick give dogs a second chance as they lay there whimpering for mercy? No, all dogs who didn’t perform well were executed in a brutal manner.
Take a look at photos of the mercy Mike Vick showed the dogs.
    http://www.animalrightsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/loveofdogs31.jpg
    http://www.jollybengali.net/theconfluence/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/gypsy.jpg

The Bible says, “You will reap what you sow” which basically means what goes around comes around. He should receive the same kind of mercy. He should stop being such a cry baby as if he is a victim and take what he has done like a man. Mike Vick will not change but find a way to continue dog fighting under the radar of officials. I say this because for years he participated in dog fighting and only stopped because he was caught. Even his own Father urged him to stop in 2001 and he refused. If a Son will not listen to his own Father, then who will he listen to?
Boddie told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that around 2001, Vick was staging dogfights in the garage of the family’s home in Newport News and kept fighting dogs in the family’s backyard, including injured ones which the father nursed back to health. Boddie said his son had been urged to not engage in the activity, but continued. He stated: “This is Mike’s thing. And he knows it.”

If Obama wants Mike Vick to have a second chance then let the government give it to him. Recruit him in the military so he can observe REAL men and women doing REAL work and not for the absurd amounts Mike gets for tossing a ball around.
