WTF? OMG. Founders rolling in…3.2.1.
Big hat tip to @Racist

If you read yesterday’s thread in George Washington, “Oops! My, bad” you might have seen this mentioned by @racist. He bought a copy of the Constitution from Amazon, and upon reviewing his purchase, read a shocking statement from the publisher inside the book. He was kind enough to scan the page for iOTW and it is for real.
Here is the book’s page on Amazon.com. If you read the reviews-other folks are surprised/shocked/angered too. Why does Amazon still use A&D Publishing/Wilder Publications if their product is defective and biased? You might want to ask them.
Or, maybe you’d like to write a letter directly to:
A & D Publishing
PO Box 3005
Radford,Va 24143-3005
or contact: Wilder Publications
If you do contact them be respectful. As with the tea party, it takes one nasty comment or sign to paint everyone else with a broad rightwing/racist etc…brush. Show them more respect than they show to our Founding documents.
We’re wondering, is this what Obama and company think about the Constitution? Is this the copy that Elena Kagan has been using to determine rulings of cases and teachings in school? Things that make you go, WTF?!?
AND…another hattip to @joeclark77 who found more info about this “Warning Label” over at Cato@Liberty

Wow that “not giving them ammunition” thing is what I was just now posting on the mutilation thing!
I did some research on Wilder and there are other reviews about it and an article on “Noonanfornevada.com”
They published some Fredrick Douglas works too, and they left off everything except the race part. So this is NOT something “boilerplate” that they put on all historic works. This is relatively specific to works they don’t agree with apparantly.

Joe, your point is well-taken, but boilerplate or not, why does a publisher feel the need to put this kind of disclaimer on anything they publish? Are they so lacking in faith of the intelligence of their customers that they believe buyers of their books need to be warned that they may be “offended” by their contents? Or maybe they know their customers too well, and are afraid that a ‘tard buying one of their copies of the Constitution might sue Wilder Publications for a hate crime.

Question:
“What is it going to take to purge our society of these post-modernist, politically-correct dillweeds?-My2cents”
Answer:
A gun and someone willing to use it on them or just eliminate welfare.
Once they have to fend for themselves the founding fathers will gain new respect in their eyes. Until either of these things happen, this is what we are in for .

Boilerplate political disclaimer my ass.
This is NOT a historical “work” … it is one of our Founding Documents. It elaborates the principles upon which the republic is established. Spare me any reflex commentary regarding the Founders’ sociocultural milieu, and standard-issue PC mumblings about “diversity of viewpoints”
This is preparing the battlespace for wholesale amendment to the “Living Constitution” which is the Grail for ProgressiveShitheads
I like Scalias’ take … he prefers his Constitution “DEAD”. It is already amenable to amendment by the states and their citizenry. Other than that, fuck off. Want sharia ? Stay in MuzzieVille. Want radical egalitarianism ? Go live in Eurabia. Or Kalifornia. You only get life, liberty and the chance to pursue happiness. Courtesy of your own merits, sweat and labor.
Fuck PC progressives, whom are totally and irrevocably Commies without the guts to be forthright about their pie-in-the-sky-just-let-us-run-everydamnthing in your life delusions.
Last tidbit for progressives here or anywhere; the Amendments to the Constitution are in proper order … primacy of freedom of speech, assembly, press and worship are guaranteed and secured by instrumentality referenced in the next clause.
Historical “work” hardly. This company is simply positioning themselves for government security.

Thank you OHIO ! There is no Boilerplate printed on “The Narrative of Fredrick Douglas 1845″,and “The works of Fredrick Douglas ” only warns parents to discuss how race issues have changed. Douglas was a Great American, and I’m not saying his works should be scrutinized like the Constitution has been. I’m sayin NEITHER SHOULD BE. But this company felt a need and a right to interject their political views into a piece of American Heritage, and they chose to warrant different “warnings” for each one dependingon how it fit their narrative. This company should be publicly reprimanded and run out of town on a rail!

Ohio, my guess is actually that they’re going for the “school library” market. My father’s a school superintendent, and one of the things I’ve picked up from his war stories are that school boards and administrators are constantly hearing from parents who want some book or other dropped from the curriculum (i.e. Huckleberry Finn because it uses the n-word). I bet a lot of public schools love to have lawsuit-deflecting disclaimers like this on the older books.

I love the comments by libtards who don’t understand the meaning of the 3/5 Compromise.
For the last time: PLEASE LEARN SOME HISTORY. The slave owners WANTED blacks to be counted as whole persons, so they could have the benefit of their population count without allowing them to vote. Had blacks been counted as whole people, the slave states would’ve had even more electoral power. The 3/5 Compromise WAS A VICTORY FOR BLACKS and antislavery Northerners.

Paul: learn history in regard to the 3/5ths. The Founders were not counting blacks as 3/5ths of a person, they reduced the number of blacks the south could claim as property for a representative in congress. So instead of the south being able to count 50,000 blacks as property to get a representative in a slave state, they could only count 30,000 blacks toward the 50,000 needed for a representative. Learn the truth.

Since the publisher sees fit to add a disclaimer to this US Law, can we put similar disclaimers on any other US Law (like the healthcare bill) and follow them as we see fit? The way I see things, this is just another totalitarian probe. Like the healthcare takeover, or the coming immigration amnesty, or the revisionist history taught to our schoolchildren. The totalitarians are just checking to see how far they can go before the American people stand up and quit taking it. The left (toward socialism) and right (toward commercial-industrial-financial-military manufacturing-energy) are in a struggle to gain power and don’t give a crap about the American citizen. If either party cared about you, me, or the citizenry at large, the border would have been enforced and illegal aliens expelled long ago. Now that the left has power, and seems to control the schools (and now healthcare), the pandering by commercial interests (and now health insurance companies) will be toward what the left favors-such as a treating the Constitution, the basis, and limit, of the federal government’s power, as a “living document”. Why a “living document”? So the left can bend, twist, and manipulate it as it “grows”. Face it folks: to the left we taxpaying citizens are sources of income to re-distribute the wealth to those who keep them in power; to the right, we are consumers who are needed to purchase cheap foreign made goods to line the pockets of the industrialists. What was a great country, with a limited federal government, is no better than a power/income base for socialists and industrialists, and eventually globalists. A major change must happen to take our country back. When will the American public quit laying down and taking it?

newenglander is such an idiot. the times in which the constitution was written were no more racist or sexist than they are now, if not less considering the race baiting in the political arena today and the fact that women can whatever they want. The problem with blacks being counted as less than a whole person is a product of bipartisanship. If you want a classic example of why bipartisanship doesn’t work, just look at slavery. Georgia and Alabama said “we get our slavery, or we won’t sign the constitution and you can go pound sand.” So we compromised with them, and shazam: bipartisanship got in the way of progress. The people who were on the right side of the argument lacked the fortitude to press the issue so they punted and ended up with a bloody civil war a few years down the line. The Constitution was never meant to be a “living, breathing” pliable piece of crap. It was made to be intentionally difficult to amend to prevent giant swings of the pendillum by those who are easily persuaded by every wind of doctrine (like the obama generation who voted for him not knowing who he really was.) The rest of your post is tangentially disconnected from the Constitution and has nothing to do with the original intent of the founders. And indeed God is mentioned in the Declaration of Independence which was instrumental in securing our modern state and was signed by many who later participated in the creation of the Constitution. By the way, many of those signers of the Declaration lost everything, their families, fortunes, homes, and even their lives because they signed that document proclaiming liberty from tyrants and freedom to live according to the freedom given to all men by God who gave them life. Its very sad that this portion of history is not taught in school, instead we are taught that these men were selfish, white, bigoted, racist men. I guess it doesn’t really matter though, the constitution thing, because Obama doesn’t think it limits presidential authority. We’ll keep a tally of how many private businesses he raids by the time his term in office is over.

Maybe they were afraid they would be the ones who’s ass Obama wants to kick:
Remember what your leader said about the constitution:
Obama: If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court. I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order as long as I could pay for it I’d be o.k. But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society.
To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf, and that hasn’t shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that. …
I’m not optimistic about bringing about major redistributive change through the courts. You know, the institution just isn’t structured that way.

I don’t think it’s all that bad. After all, the constitution says that slaves don’t count as full human beings, but only 3/5′s of a person. I think they should count as full people, so that’s a difference between modern political thought and political thought from the 1780′s. That’s something I would discuss with my children when trying to educate them about our nations history.

The 3/5 count was negotiated to get the slave owners to agree to the rest of the Constitution, not to ‘help’ the slaves. What this did was provide the slave owners with 1 + 3/5N votes where N = # slaves. The vote of a slave owner with 10 slaves was worth 1 + 3/5*10 = 7 votes of non-slave owners. The Electoral College was set up to broker this. Since the civil war the Electoral College has been a useless, obsolete appendage that only increases the potential for corruption, as occurred in 1874 when the Chicago Tribune intercepted telegrams showing the Republican party negotiating to buy the EC votes of 4 states in order to steal the presidential election. Oregon & Florida were 2 of the states selling their votes, read The Codebreakers by David Kahn for all the details.
I got my copy from the ACLU and it doesn’t have a disclaimer in it. I hope A & D go out of business; America is not for sheople.

Okay – all of the women need to stop commenting because they have no vote. And if you are black your comments only count 3/5. Oh. . . and if you rent stop commenting because only white land owners count.
Historical context is silly. We would not want our children to have any discussion of history to go along with our founding documents. They should stand as they are. . . pure.
I had these discussions with my kids when I educated them about our constitution because history is not always pretty. AS a responsible citizen I educated my kids about how society worked then and now and the differences. It isn’t liberal it is basic training in critical thought, a key foundation of participating in democracy.

BULLSHIT!
I will die defending the US Constitution! I took an oath to uphold it as written.
http://www.theobamacountdown.com
Obama is a disgrace to the Presidency. His administration is corrupt. The stimulus money has gone to foreign banks; he dismisses the American citizen; divides its citizens; tries to ILLEGALLY offer Sestak a Cabinet position to pull out of a congressional race; refuses to seal the Mexican border; refuses to uphold the US Constitution; has an extramarital affair (VERA BAKER); destroys our economy; attacks the job producers; oppresses the poor through Orwellian policy; hoodwinks the minorities into thinking they can’t achieve on their own; considers the United States to be greedy and arrogant even though America’s compassion has helped every country on earth; continues with Machiavellian tactics to implement Communism.
In November the Democratic Communist party will be voted out of office. Then perhaps we can impeach Barack Hussein (ashamed of his name) Obama for treason, corruption, incompetence, and a lack of moral character. At the very least let’s make this Muslim Communist a one-term President. Mr. Obama has disgraced the Presidency of the United States.

THANK G O D FOR THE PRESIDENT!
1. He destroyed the Clinton Political Machine – Driving a stake thru the heart of Hillary’s Presidential aspirations – something that no Republican was ever able to do. Remember when a Hillary Presidency scared the daylights out of you?
2. He killed off the Kennedy Dynasty – No more Kennedy’s trolling Washington looking for booze and women wanting rides home. American women and Freedom are safer tonight!
3. He is destroying the Democratic Party before our eyes!
Dennis Moore had never lost a race – quit
Evan Bayh had never lost a race – quit
Byron Dorgan had never lost a race – quit
Harry Reid – soon t o be GONE
These are just a handful of the Democrats whose political careers Obama has destroyed! By the end of 2010 dozens more will be gone.
In December of 2008 the Democrats were on the rise. In the last two election cycles they had picked up 14 senate seats and 52 house seats. The press was touting the death of the Conservative Movement and the Republican Party. In just one year, Barack Hussein (ashamed of his name) Obama put a stop to all of this and will probably give the house, if not the senate back to the Republicans.
4. He has completely exposed liberals and progressives for what they are. Every Generation seems to need to relearn the lesson on why they should never actually put liberals in charge. He is bringing home the lesson very well.
Liberals tax, borrow and spend – check
Liberals won’t bring themselves to protect America – check
Liberals want to take over the economy – check
Liberals think they know what is best for everyone – check
Liberals aren’t happy till they are running YOUR life – check
5. He has brought more Americans back to conservatism than anyone since Reagan. In one year he has rejuvenated the Conservative movement and brought out to the streets millions of Freedom Loving Americans. Name me one other time in your life that you saw your friends and neighbors this interested in taking back America !
6. His amazing leadership has sparked the greatest period of sales of firearms and ammunition this country has seen. Law-abiding citizens have rallied and have provided a “stimulus” to the sporting goods field while other industries have failed, faded or moved off-shore.
7. In all honesty one year ago I was more afraid than I have been in my life. Not of the economy but of the direction our country was going. I thought Americans had forgotten what this country was all about. My neighbors, friends and strangers proved to me that my lack of confidence of the Greatness and Wisdom of the American people was flat wrong.
8. When the American People wake up no smooth-talking-teleprompter reader can fool them!
Barack Hussein (ashamed of his name) Obama woke up these Great Americans! Again I want to say Thank You Barack (Who is Insane) Obama! This is exactly the kind of hope and change we desperately needed.

I found on ALL of Wilder Publishings books a similar disclaimer.. on everything from “Communist Manifesto” to Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense.” I find the difference is in the 2007 vs. the 2008 disclaimers:
The majority of the 2007 disclaimers include “race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations.” The majority of the 2008 disclaimers address “…how views on race have changed.” However, that is not uniformly the case – 2007 & 2008 have BOTH disclaimers, just different disclaimers in different books. Haven’t been able to determine the rhyme or reason.

I don’t care if it was a Christian publisher or a Muslim publisher. The effect is the same: our Constitution is heading towards being nothing more than a historical document rather than the legal guideline and federal limiting device that it should have been for the past 223 years. It should have been the basis for all laws passed since that time, but our government officials (of all 3 branches) have seen fit to manipulate it for their own good and for the benefit of the power base that has placed them in power, left or right, Democrat or Republican. What was once our foundation (including, but not limited to, the Constitution, the family unit, and religious institutions) has been chipped away, tunneled under, cracked, and splintered… if not wholly discarded. Now we are a nation without a proper foundation. The walls and governmental institutions which we have created and built have risen too high to be supported by whats left of our foundation. They cannot stand the strain of each new layer of government being heaped on top of another only for the purpose of rising ever higher and more self-serving, and neither can the American citizenry. We have created a new Tower of Babel. It is our our all inclusive, all knowing, all powerful, yet completely foundationless, federal government.

Thank God for that. American values today are garbage, thanks mostly to the undue influence of socialist public schools, Hollywood, a (mostly) anti-American press, and destructive society-tinkering social programs from a sprawling-out-of-control government.
Thank God our Founding Fathers did have the values they had, values possibly more enlightened and informed than anyone at A&D/Wilder. Yes, unfortunately, our values have changed, however, what has not changed is the one thing the Founders considered most when writing and deliberating on these most precious of pages, human nature.

I’m sure a young black child might be confused about where his hostilities should be directed when he reads that the slavery of his ancestors was tolerated by his founding fathers. He’s already done more than Regan or Bush I. I live on the border, if you don’t understand it you should research the issue. No amount of troops or walls will solve the demand issue. @joeclark77 I’m sorry if I was a little ambiguous earlier. I will certainly tell my children that slavery is wrong. The point that I was trying to make was that considering black people to be less than fully human was morally reprehensible and that our constitution and declaration, while giving us wonderfully forward thinking views about the equality of people, codified that attitude that the color of your skin influenced the level of your humanity.

Just because you say Regan did it does not mean squat. What else was he doing on Memorial Day. I bet he was not plaing golf.
Obama has done nothing for imigration, at least Regan tried, but it was not followed through on by other administrations. Well – considering women’s suffrage, blacks as property, etc. etc. etc. the original constitution did have some “problems”.
It does amaze me however — the abject reverence the founders are accorded. While I think many were geniuses, somehow pointing out the mistakes they made along with modernity’s effects on our values is considered heresy. When respect is replaced with outright adoration you end up with hyperbole like the above…

The right is the only one trying to remove Jefferson from the history books (actually, they literally did just that in Texas. Removed him from their future textbooks as he doesn’t fit the far-right board’s strong anti-deist agenda).

The Constitution only happens to be the most important document in all of human history.
To put a disclaimer on it is far worse than treason against your own country, it’s an insult to all of history and how far we have come.

This rates in the WTF category. I hope it works. If not, there is a link to YouTube on the bottom.
This comes from Jared Law. There is video called “Generation We.” This should scare the bejeebers out of you too. What kind of people are out there? Obviously not the same kind when I was growing up.

This is stupid and remarks like those from newenglander show a lack of understanding of the constitution and the purpose of the tea party (teabagger really? childish crack that).
The constitution is amended to correct those original faults which is what the founding fathers intended. Franklin had Jefferson change “life, liberty and private property” to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” because they knew to do otherwise would make it much harder to ever eliminate slavery. The 3/5′s was also another effort to keep the south from having too much representation so that slavery could eventually be abolished.
Read your history with an open mind, not blinded by government education.
Without the constitution, with the help of the progressives we would have sunk into total socialism, then what freedoms would you have?

I grew up in the Real America. Not the one full of Liberal-Commies where BHO abviously came from. I served 26+ in USAF. Now have a son, 2 nephews and 1 neice in uniform. Now I’m in my 60′s and firmly believe that putting a Warning Label on the US Constitution (the one I swore an Oath to support and defend…) is absolutely, without question, the most despicable, most politically-correctness type of insanity it has even been my displeasure to witness in my entire lifetime!
– This publisher should never again receive one dollar of public support. I will make it my life’s business to see that they get every bit of Bad Publicity that America can heap upon them!
Wake Up America; It’s time to stand up and be Counter. November cannot come fast enough. I just hope & pray our patience doesn’t totally run out before then …

The real question here is do they put this warning on every item they republish that was originally written 200 or more years ago? If so then they’re obviously just trying to cover their butts in some way against our litigious society. If not then they have some explaining to do on why a document (the Constitution) which is on public display in countless places needs this warning.
BTW – Wilder Publications website has no way to contact them from there.

Liberal or Conservative those 545 people who are our governing elitists are all controlled by their corporate masters and banker monoliths, all the Sheeple are well separated by the big lie that we should be on one side or the other and make up your mind quickly, no time to think Hocus Pocus sales pitch they represent, Time for all Real Americans … to vote out all Republicants and Democraps and demand a third and fourth party in EVERY race, let’s see em buy and sell every candidate then as easily as they OBVIOUSLY do now! Otherwise be a part of the lie and do as you always do when you are told to do so by Bill O’Reilly and Bill Mahr suckers! Fight em now with votes or later with your lives!

Let’s try to keep this in perspective. We’re talking about a small-print legal notice that appears on the copyright page, and reminds the reader to consider the document in its historical context.
Not every word of the Constitution reflects a sacred American value. You have the three-fifths compromise, for example, which counts black people as 3/5 of a white person for purposes of taxation and representation. If you were teaching your kid the Constitution, you’d probably want to explain the issue of slavery in the 18th century, the role it played in the framing of our government, and how that has evolved over time…wouldn’t you?
As tempting as it may for some people to blow this out of proportion and present it as evidence of an impending communist dictatorship under Obama, really all it means is that some lawyer at a publishing company got overzealous in the CYA department.
I’d be more concerned with the organized political movement to put disclaimers on science text books to suit the religious sentiments of fundamentalist Christians.

TO all you detractors, the Constitution of the United States Of America is an IDEAL. It does a very good job of outlining the best way people can live together in freedom. It has been the manipulation of this ideal and these laws by special interests and government that has corrupted this ideal and made law meaningless.
Not the fault of the Constitution that many Americans have been unable to live up to it.

Cruise show season is kind of odd – instead of having a proper Fashion Week where all of the collections are presented together, they’re released slowly in shows around America and Europe, each with very different backdrops and moods. For example, Chanel, a brand that always shows at Paris Fashion Week, chose to present its Cruise collection this year on a Venice boardwalk.

Though the majority agreed on the outcome, its members differed about how to get there.
The Second Amendment, like the rest of the Bill of Rights, originally restricted only the power of the federal government. The Supreme Court later ruled that most, but not all, of the protections of the Bill of Rights applied to the power of the states as well, under the due-process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, adopted in the wake of the Civil War.
