Newly commissioned Marine officer visits sick grandpa for first salute

Marine 2nd Lt. Taylor Batye drove 16 hours to visit her sick grandfather, retired Army Sgt. Maj. David Teufel, in the hospital. Teufel was unable to travel to Batye's Naval Academy graduation in May, so she traveled to him on Father's Day for her first salute.

Retired Army Sgt. Maj. David Teufel was too sick to travel to his granddaughter’s graduation at the U.S. Naval Academy to offer the new Marine officer her first salute. So she drove 16 hours, surprising him on Father’s Day, so the two could share the special moment.

Well, this just made me cry. My Dad was able to commission me so I know that this was very special for this Marine and her SGM grandfather. I just spent last weekend with my best friend’s father, 95, retired CSM (Command Sgt. Maj) survivor of Pearl Harbor AND Battle of the Bulge. It is so important to be around these heroes as much as possible.
This Marine is off to a great start.

Not only is she a Marine Corps officer, she’s an engineer! She already knows some heavy stuff – hope they use her talents well.

For all the bullshit we have to post about scumbags, in order to broadcast to the world who we here at iOTW think are scumbags (Obama Voters), it gives us great joy to be able to have a platform that can help spread a story like this one.
