An Aleut village in Alaska offered to swap 50,000 acres of land for use as a wildlife refuge in return for being allowed to build an 11-mile gravel road to an airport so that villagers in need of lifesaving medical care could be transported to Anchorage. They have been fighting the Federal Government for thirty years to build the road and, in that time, nineteen people have died for lack of medical care they could otherwise have received.

But the Obama Department of the Interior shot them down, because Gaia.

“During an August visit to Alaska, [Interior Secretary Sally] Jewell was told that building a road that connects King Cove and Cold Bay was vital. But in December, Jewell rejected the road saying it would jeopardize waterfowl in the refuge.

She stood up in the gymnasium and told those kids,
‘I’ve listened to your stories, now I have to listen to the animals…’ ”

Of course Sally Jewell has to “listen to the animals”. She works in DC.

I’ve always admired the Gay Patriot for breaking the Stereo Type Bull Shit and stepping up. Much like some of the Black Conservatives that constantly take crap from people that happen to have the same pigmentation as them.
As far as listening to the animals. I like the noise they make when I shoot them for dinner.

Build it anyway. When the federal bureaucrats show up to harass you, kill them and feed them to bears.

I listened to a few animals who had taken a break from munching on their fellow wildlife. They were saying “Sally Jewell. What a frickin’ fool.”

C’mon, Sally – be one with nature for several days. At best you will go hungry and get a rash; at worst you will be dinner.

When people make a decision like this, they are new to power.

I can just see Sarah Palin hopping up on a road grader and leading the charge down the right-of-way.

I’m with @even steven on this. Just build the damn road. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness that to ask for permission. And killing a few bureaucrats would be beneficial to the overall health of the country and to the starving wildlife around the area.

Just build the effing road anyways and if any politicians bitch about it shoot ‘em and then say “aren’t you glad we’ve got it now?”
