Obama administration seeks to reduce cases of cancer in US…by changing the definition of cancer

If you needed another reason to oppose government run health care here’s one to make your blood boil.

from Forbes:

The federal government wants to reduce the number of Americans diagnosed each year with cancer. But not by better preventive care or healthier living. Instead, the government wants to redefinethe term “cancer” so that fewer conditions qualify as a true cancer. What does this mean for ordinary Americans — and should we be concerned?

On July 29, 2013, a working group for the National Cancer Institute (the main government agency for cancer research) published a paper proposing that the term “cancer” be reserved for lesions with a reasonable likelihood of killing the patient if left untreated. Slower growing tumors would be called a different name such as “indolent lesions of epithelial origin” (IDLE). Their justification was that modern medical technology now allows doctors to detect small, slow-growing tumors that likely wouldn’t be fatal. Yet once patients are told they have a cancer, many become frightened and seek unnecessary further tests, chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery. By redefining the term “cancer,” the National Cancer Institute hopes to reduce patient anxiety and reduce the risks and expenses associated with supposedly unnecessary medical procedures. In technical terms, the government hopes to reduce “overdiagnosis” and “overtreatment” of cancer.

From its conception, obamacare had as much to do with Americans’ access to healthcare as NASA had to do with Islam’s contributions to Science.

My wife of 36 yrs. passed away from leukemia at the end of Feb. of this yr. In a way I’m glad she died before Obamacare took effect because I’m afraid if she’d been diagnosed with leukemia now these cold heartless bastards would have told her to go home and die. Now they can’t touch her which is a good thing for her but not for those of us who are still alive. I hate what’s happening in my country right now because of Obama. Sarah Palin was right about the death panels, God help us. Just how soon will we be in violation of this ungodly mess called Obamacare if we don’t voluntarily turn ourselves in when these evil bastards decide that our lives are of no value to the state anymore? I WILL DEFY THIS WHOLE FRIGGIN MESS AND THEY CAN GO TO HELL!

From now on, you’ll only be described as having cancer if half the cells in your body resemble the Crab Nebulae in the Constellation Orion*

Sorry, that treatment no longer qualifies because *drumroll* Section 4(b) of Clause 36 under Approved Treatments For Cancer states you do not have cancer anymore. If you would like a second opinion, I can do that now or you can call 1-800-NOT-4YOU to discuss options. You do, however, qualify for the blue pill. That one’s free.

They changed the definition of Communism by calling it “Democracy”.

These are the same people who claim to have significantly reduced the deficit since 2008. Unfortunately out of the two way to reduce the deficit (reduction of spending) or (increase in taxation), guess which one was implemented?

Aardvark- I hope you can find some peace in your time of loss.

I hate to say it, but they didn’t wait until Obamacare took effect, just the threat of it has triggered the change in attitude and protocols. My hospice is overwhelmed, doctors have been referring patients to us in record numbers in the past three months, and we can’t keep up. Doctors at least want their patients kept comfortable, but they know they’re being abandoned by the rest of the system.

    God help us.

Not the first time. They changed the definition of unemployment and cooked the books.

Now, they’ve changed conservative so it means ANYBODY who has, is , or might disagree with them.

It’s not like I care what they think or do. It is like a tiger in a cage. I definitely want to know if it gets loose.

Thank you for all the kind comments. My wife Patty was diagnosed with leukemia 2 yrs. ago just before Thanksgiving and immediately started chemotherapy and then underwent a bone marrow transplant at the University of Wash. hospital in Seattle which kept her in Seattle all of last summer (2012). She came home last Sept. and we thought she was recovering but she caught a cold and with a weakened immune system couldn’t get well and went back to Seattle again just after last Christmas for further treatment. Fortunately she had very good insurance from working at one of our local hospitals for 30 yrs., which helped tremendously with all her medical bills. Despite everything they did she did not recover. I’m doing well as are my 3 children, I don’t know why this happened and probably never will. Thank you again, I will be OK because my trust in God is strong. Its not easy but I will make it.

    @the aardvark,

I’m really sorry to hear about your loss.

I say a short prayer asking the Lord to comfort you and your children.

My mother was a prayer warrior, and I think at least a little of that rubbed off on me.
I know it’s hard to tell when I’m cussing or acting like a smart ass, but I am a witness that prayer works.

I just learned yesterday that the sister of one of my best friends died a short while back. I knew she had lung cancer. I am still trying to hold back tears after learning from her father that she asked him to take her to their little family cemetery in a small clearing in the Ozark National Forest so she could show him where she wanted to be buried. She picked a spot under an oak tree and went home to die a short time later. The doctors had given her six months at the most.
She was a close friend to me before she got married, and used to play the piano at get togethers while me and her brother played guitars. She could sing gospel like an angel too.

Earlier, I was trying to find the cemetery online so I could go place flowers on her grave and say a prayer. I found it and also learned that their family is closely related to Willie Nelson’s grandmother, Lucy Nancy Standridge Greenhaw, who is also buried in the same area. They had never mentioned that to me in the 34 years I have known the family.

Sorry for the long story. Don’t know why, just felt right. Blessings to you aardvark.
