“The Dems Are Communists” – Howard Stern

Home - by BigFurHat - March 16, 2010 - 20:42 UTC - 72 Comments

When you lose Howard Stern you’ve lost ordinary, everyday people. Politically, Stern is left-center to left-leaning and casually to moderately well-informed. He is done with democrats. He now sees them as communists. Many of his listeners will follow his lead.

Thank you to Ilario Pantano for pointing to this clip. Mr. Pantano is running for Congress in the 7th District of North Carolina.

Great, but I wonder which scares him most, the communists or the dreaded social conservatives. If it was a match up, what would the Howard Sterns of the world do?

It is inconceivable to me that Howard Stern is to the Right of Barak Hussein Obama! But then again, neither of them have any real value.

I’m not buying it. The man supported Gore, Kerry, Clinton. He’s just spouting off because of his FCC troubles. Has he ever gone after Obama? I haven’t heard him, although to be fair I don’t listen to him.

When Howard ran for Governor, as a Libertarian I think, he was conservative in many ways despite his radicalness on the abortion/gays issues. Also, he said, in jest of course, I hope, that he would use the homeless to fill in NYC’s potholes, thus solving two problems at once. He hated the FCC under Bush too.

Who cares what has awakened him as long as he keeps spouting the anti-Obama message. Maybe some of his voter/listeners will stump off to the polls like robots chanting, “Howard told me to vote Republican…Howard told me to vote Republican”.

Anyone take a look at Pantano? I’m sending the guy some money after reading about him. I live in Georgia, but I like what I have read…

“”WILMINGTON, North Carolina, Jan 28 — Ilario Pantano, a former Marine Corps officer, author, and deputy sheriff, will announce his candidacy for Congress in North Carolina’s Seventh Congressional District on Thursday, January 28. Mr. Pantano will be seeking the Republican nomination to challenge incumbent Democratic Congressman Mike McIntyre.

Pantano’s service began at age 17 when he enlisted in the Marine Corps and became an elite scout sniper. After fighting in the Gulf War he left to get his education, work on Wall Street at Goldman Sachs, and start his own business. Witnessing the attacks on 9/11, Pantano returned to the service and led a platoon of infantry Marines in Fallujah through some of the fiercest fighting of the war. During combat operations, Pantano killed two terrorists and was later accused of murder. A military hearing dismissed all charges against him, but after receiving Jihadist death threats to his family, Pantano chose to resign from the Marine Corps. Since 2006 he has protected his local community in North Carolina as a Deputy Sheriff.

After his honorable discharge, Pantano authored a book about his experiences and has been a guest on national news programs including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, CNN, MSNBC, BBC and Fox News. He also produced a documentary – Warriors: In Their Own Words – to raise money for wounded veterans.”"

Not as hot as you think. The Boomers currently running the government (on the left) have always squared off against the Boomers on the right, who pretty much hijacked the conservative mainstream with social issues like abortion and gay marriage.

The Xer’s and Millennials care fare more about fiscal matters than purely social issues. Not that they aren’t important enough to debate, but as the saying goes, you don’t pick exterior latex colors while the house is burning down.

Say what you want about Stern, but he is definitely not the dyed-in-the-wool leftist that he’s portrayed as in some of the comments here. He’s endorsed Pataki, Guiliani, Whitman and Schwarzenegger. They’re not my ideal Republicans, but for the New York Metro area and California they’re right of center. When Stern ran as a Libertarian for governor of NY, one of his main planks was reestablishment of the death penalty. He backed Obama in the 2008 general election, but that was after endorsing Ron Paul earlier in the year. Some of his views are pretty far to the left, but I don’t think you can pin him down so easily as a leftist.

Comments aside, I think the characterization in the post blurb is fair. -bfh

Yeah back in 2008, Stern was concerned that the merger of Sirius and XM radio wouldn’t be approved by the FCC committee. The two Democrats on the panel were against the merger–they eventually voted against it, but it still passed by a 3-2 vote. Stern–since his income relies on the success of Sirius at this point—was angry at the two FCC members who were against the merger–enough to call them communists.

Stern wasn’t referring to Barack Obama, health care, or anything else that has happened in the last year in the quoted clip—he was just doing what he has been doing his whole career–railing against the FCC. The clip was taken out of context. Also, Stern has never strictly been a Democrat–he supported Republican governors in New Jersey and New York back in the 90s.

That clip about Howard Stern being done with Democrats is from before July 2008. Stern still is as liberal as ever. I am a big fan of Stern’s (but not his politics) and that clip was Stern complaining that every Democrat on the FCC Board voted against the Sirius – XM Merger while every Republican on the FCC Board voted for it. This conversation took place before the merger was approved (it was approved by the FCC in July 2008). I don’t know why it is just getting attention now, it is really being taken out of context. Believe me when I tell you I have been listening to Stern for decades and today he is the most liberal that I have ever heard him. He has been on vacation this week so they are just replaying old bits (and they haven’t played the clip that’s being showcased here this week). When I originally heard him say this at the time I was thinking “Finally!” But he quickly forgot and went back to his old, liberal ways and became even more liberal in a lot of respects.

Stern did support moderate republicans like Christe Whitman as NJ governer, Gulianni, and Patacki. He also supported going to war in 2003, at first. His main problem with Bush was the FCC was down his throat. He is a perfect example that big city north eastern folks are not all fiscally liberal, just socially liberal. Thats how Reagan carried alot of the northeast and New England states, by appealing to folks like Stern on fiscal issues and downplaying social positions.

Unfortunately, the Progressives dominate and have real power. Progressives desire to style the USA more like the old USSR with GUARANTEES of jobs, education, health care, food, housing. The only problem is that this system never works. I only hope more of America wakes up before we lose our Republic.

That’s quite an oxy-moron. Having two degrees in Community and Human Services – I have to say that such ideology is rare and makes no sense – amazing when those on the left want to sound so educated – they come off more ignorant than they were before their statements!
