Personally, I see nothing wrong with what Dan Rather said. It’s just another one of those inane folksy chestnuts he pulls out of his ten gallon hat. What is telling is that MATTHEWS gets kerfuffled at the “watermelon/Obama” conflation. He wasn’t able to forget Obama’s blackness for a nano second, let alone during a 20 minute speech. Matthews racism is on a hair trigger. Rather is actually the innocent, seeing nothing wrong with using a watermelon axiom to make a point about not being able to sell things to people who could really use it.
Update: Irony Curtain wonders what Matthew’s would have done had it been Newt Gingrich wandering into some wordage that had his radar pinging. Matthew’s would have sat back and salivated, and then editorialized about Gingrich’s racism. For Rather he jumps on the grenade.

This was the first of many reasons I left the Democrat Party (I will NEVER call it Democratic again) completely over 20 years ago. When you get them alone, they’re all like this. They hate Blacks, Jews, Gays, etc. MORE for being in their party than if they weren’t. I guess when somebody votes with you, gives you complete loyalty despite the fact you work AGAINST them at every opportunity, it’s natural for you to have contempt for them.
