NBC To Finish 5th In Sweeps For First Time; Network Falls Behind Univision

Home - by - February 21, 2013 - 23:00 America/New_York - 24 Comments

DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD

An already bad month is getting worse for NBC. For the first time in sweeps history, the network is projected to finish fifth in the key adults 18-49 demographic. That’s crushing blow for NBC, which went from flying high in November with a sweep win to its shows cratering and ratings plunging. From the beginning of the February sweep on January 31 through February 19, NBC has averaged a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49. That’s below the 1.5 that Univision has been averaging so far over the 20 night of the sweep period. In fact, Univision has bested NBC every singe night of the sweep so far among adults 18-49 and is poised to overtake NBC for its first fourth-place sweep finish in the demo. While this isn’t the first time Univision has topped one of the Big Three for a month (it ranked higher than CBS in July 2010 and 2012), it is the first time the Spanish-language network has beaten NBC and the first time it has come in fourth place in an in-season sweep. In addition to Univision, NBC also ranks below the 1.7 18-49 rating that ABC has been averaging this sweep, as well as the 2.0 rating for Fox and the 4.9 rating for leader CBS, which of course is buoyed by its broadcast of the Super Bowl on February 3 and the Grammy Awards on February 10.

Maybe when Spanish-language media finishes killing mainstream media in the ratings, the MSM will change their minds on how great illegal immigration is.

I have cable. It comes with on demand. One slow night of programming I went to ABC MBC and CBS on Demand and there wasn’t one thing I wanted to watch. Reality TV, AKA we don’t want to pay for writers TV,is turning the vast wasteland of television ino an even crappier wastland.

@MJA — Telemundo is owned by NBC. I believe that Univision is not owned by anyone. Other than themselves.

I realize my comments above probably sound racist (to lefties, anyway), but it’s not about race. It’s about culture. My grandpa and grandma came from Italy at the turn of the [last] century, and none of their 10 children learned to speak Italian. My grandpa told his kids, “You’re American, you speak English.” There was no Italian TV for them to immerse themselves in the culture of the home country and never integrate.

I find it hilarious that this subculture that refuses to learn English and integrate (and a media that talks crap about America in Spanish all day) is beginning to chip away at the ratings and revenues of lefty media organizations. I never thought about the possibility of this happening before, and maybe they never did either. The law of unintended consequences in action – bwa ha ha!

I have not watched NBC for something like 8 years or so. The last time was a “Green Week” where EVERY SINGLE show on that week had to have a Green message – save the Earth, recycle, global warming and all of that crap. I vowed to never watch it again, and I have upheld my end of that vow.

Now days, I rarely watch any TV — too much reality crap and just plan crap.

    Several good observations here:
    1. Don’t know about Univision, but Miami’s Cuban channel 23 is far more reliable for news content than any of the local English stations and, living here, one can pick up enough Spanish to get the gist of what’s being said and follow it up elsewhere.

    2. The Cuban station has many of what used to be called “variety shows” in the US. And they do not hesitate to pepper them with beautiful women. MJA sez they’re trannies, but I know what I’m lookin’ at.

    3. The Spanish channels are like the NFL: if you don’t like the sound track, turn the volume down to zero and turn the stereo on.

Guess people will only put up with so much garbage before they change the channel.

I’m a little surprised that anyone still watches NBC, CBS, or ABC – they’re all crap – all the time.
