Very cool footage. Are dash board cams standard issue in Russia or what.

I watched on burn across the sky a couple months ago late at night that stayed lit longer than any shooting star I’ve ever seen before. The most awesome thing to watch.

@Bad Brad — The drivers in Russia a pretty bad. Most people put dash cams in to prove that they didn’t cause any accidents. Which gives us some rather surprising time-wasters.

Never mind the previous post. The video has been removed from U-toob.

We need the leadership of Algore to prevent this from happening.

Class, welcome to Kinetic Energy Weapons 101. Let’s start by pointing out a few easy to determine facts about this event.
Remember how you can count between the lightning strike and the first peal of thunder to know how far away a storm is?? Count the seconds between the initial flash and the sound of the first sonic shock wave passing. The several second time lapse means that this event was miles high in the sky.
Also notice how there are multiple smaller sonic shock waves that follow the first one. These are from fragments of the object that generate sonic shock waves of their own as they come screaming in.
Next, notice the enormously bright flash that was generated that left dual smoke trails behind it. That was the enormous speed (Mach 50+) of the object being transformed into intensely hot and dense plasma, which is what slowed it down to subsonic speed. Take ten tons and 35,000 MPH and plug them into Einstein’s E-MC2 equation to get an idea of how much energy was released…
Lucky for the inhabitants that the trajectory was hundreds of miles long and very high in the atmosphere. Had this object delivered itself along with that very hot, dense ball of plasma straight down it would have been akin to a nuclear weapons detonation in effect and would have made a very impressive crater all the way to bedrock in the middle of a populated area.
This object spent most of its energy in the atmosphere, and the residents who witnessed it are very lucky all they got was a sonic boom out of it…

The Russia meteorite was estimated at 10 tons…2012 DA14 is estimated at 130,000 metric tons. I’m glad NASA says it’s goona miss Earth!

Thanks, Chieftain. I wondered why it seemed to burn up in the atmosphere then reappear as a little streak. So the damage we saw was caused by sonic boom?

3 things
How cool is it that it was captured from the very begining to the end?
Thank Russian insurance fraud for a plethora of dash cams there – especially if you drive a high dollar car.
This is proof all you need to do is throw the rock really really hard.
Bonus questions:
What if this is a Star Troopers thing and some large bug on another planet just pooped this thing at us?
Is this the start of interplanetary war with insects? If it is, don’t send Marines to go shoot them. I’ll give a bid on sending time-release foggers. No point in wasting lives and all the expense of going there. It’s just pest control, guys.

That is awesome. And glad it only shook up people. Geez, Russia & Australia seem to be a targets for those things, like flies target 0bama, eh? lol.

I just purchased some gold.
The passing asteroid is probably made of solid gold, and with my sorry state of financial failures, it will divert its course and hit Chicago.
It’ll wipe out the entire southside and end up rolling to a stop in Obama’s yard, thereby making Gold worthless or make Obama a gazillionaire and taking care of “that Chicago problem” at the same time.

Gold? Lead is cheaper, and more useful.
Edith McCrotch
February 15th, 2013
The Federal Government (Homeland “Security”, the DOT, and other departments ), has all the “lead” tied up through MASS purchasing so as to keep the bullets from being bought by the lawful citizens in this country.
So yeah… what the hell is gold worth against that?

Distantly related ,this reminds me of a story Tim Conway would tell about a tornado that hit his home town, actually ripping off roofs, uprooting trees and causing major damage on the street where he lived.
He said that his dad emerged from the front door of his home after the storm had passed looked around at the damage and said, “damn kids”.

Remember, Edith. Their ammo is also war booty waitin’ to be taken.
The ammo buy-athon is relatively recent. They’re just keeping the late bloomers from playing, if anything.

Cheiftain, I think the videos confirm you well.
I swear I can see the plasma part in the trail right where it went boom. It’s a very colorful area for a short streak there (relative to the whole thing). I may be wrong but it looks like it to me.

Some reasons there are so many dash cams in Russia.
