Students, parents concerned by seemingly slanted college syllabus (“The tagline Fox News makes me cringe.”)
WTOV9
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va.—Students and parents are questioning a college professor after she reportedly issued a syllabus that filtered student’s research options
The syllabus tells students in a West Liberty University political science course what sources they can and cannot use.
Among those students are asked not to use are The Onion, an openly fictitious parody of real-life news, and Fox News, a professional news organization.
In the syllabus, the professor allegedly says, “The tagline Fox News makes me cringe.”
“One of our values at West Liberty is to encourage students to go out and inquire and gather information and look at as many different sources as possible on any side, before you reach your opinion,” said Robin Capehart, president of West Liberty University.
Upset students and parents have taken their concerns to local media, like NEWS9’s news partner Dave Bloomquist at WWVA, who shared an email from a concerned parent with us.
Parents claim it is unfair to the students to encourage some sources which lean in one direction politically, while discouraging those going in the other direction.

I saw this story yesterday and it makes me personally sick because my Dad went to West Liberty from 1939-1941 for his freshman and sophomore years and then went to WVU to finish. My Dad (who is going to be celebrating his 92nd birthday soon) was in the Army for WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam to fight for this idiot’s right to be an idiot. (Fuming)

If this story is true it shouldn’t come as a surprise. While conservative in the 60′s were taking course that would insure their real-world success the libs (who couldn’t handle the hard work) took social courses that set them up to be teachers and administrators in the education system. This went on for decades with libs gradually filling most of the spots in the education system and now they control it. I don’t think this was some master plan but it just happened and now like minded libs/progs can set the curricullum in the majority of Universities. Colleges and High Schools. If you set the direction you’ll end up programming most of the students coming out.

This happens all the time as I can attest to personally.
So-called “teachers” stack the deck by only allowing far left sources so there can only be one predetermined opinion.
You’ll be surprised, if you stand up at a Parent Orientation Night and call the dirtbag “teacher” out on it in front of the other parents – like I did – that many other parents feel the same way.
Don’t leave it there, either. Bring it to the attention of the principal and demand balance.
The night I did this I had parents I didn’t even know high-fiving me in the halls. (One woman asked if she could give me a kiss!)

I guess they took the liberty out of the classroom but left the liberty for the schools name. I wonder how much those students paid to take that course taught by the giant douche?

HEY teach, FOX news alert: if the TRUTH makes you cringe, you have some serious issues in your own life. Stop screwing up your students lives too.

They should have asked the “teacher” what sources she would allow for topics dealing with women’s issues. Bet she would have said, NOW, NARAL, and PP.
These people aren’t teachers, they’re propagandists.

Back in the 70′s while in college, I had a Poly Sci. professor blast me for using “value judgments” when descirbing political parties. I had just been discharged from the Army serving from 1968 to 1970, so I was a bit more mature than my fellow students. After the professorial tantrum, I told him to go fuck himself. I was asked to drop the course, which I gladly did. Some things in life never change. I so hope it will before I die.

So what should the tagline be, “We decide you deride” or “Unfair and unbalanced”?

– cfm990,
“Our Way or No Way!” is more like it.
