Oh yeah, and because of federal candy regulations. Not. Kidding.

Boys and girls at a Massachusetts elementary school have been banned from bringing Valentine’s Day candy or cards over cultural equality issues and federal guidelines regulating candy.

Parents of students at Salemwood Elementary School in Malden, Mass, received a letter informing them of the policy – that impacts not just Valentine’s Day – but all holidays.
“We have many different nationalities, cultures and languages spoken,” Principal Carol Keenan told Fox News. “Because of that we don’t honor specific holidays.”
Keenan said she did not want some students feeling left out.

“This is done with all good intentions – to have all students be accepted, to have all students feel like they belong,” she said. Malden is the second most-diverse city in Massachusetts and the school is home to students from 67 different cultures. David DeRuosi, superintendent of Malden Public Schools, defended the principal’s decision – explaining that with new residents and new mandates “certain traditions we have to modify and adapt.”

    SALEM, Mass., eh? Isn’t that where the WITCH TRIALS were held?

    Are they going to (figuratively?) burn a Valentine-giver, candy-eater at the stake?

    I say, BURN THE PRINCIPAL AT THE STAKE!

    Better yet, erect a “stake” site near the school entrance (on private property, of course) with a homemade sculpture of a Valentine being burned, along with a Whitman’s Sampler.

    Boobie – it’s Malden, not Salem but Malden is not far from Salem (a few towns separated).

    I don’t understand why they don’t explain and share all holidays with the kids. They can easily learn about other cultures and appreciate them more – and noone would be left out. Heck, even U of MO is honoring pagans and wicka’s now.

    So, to honor all cultures they kill the American culture?

    @cfm990, right on.

    So what do Muslims give their goats and sheep on Valentines day? A Whitman’s sampler of oats, some old moldy flowers or do they give their animals vacuum cleaners and other household items. Enquiring minds want to know.

    This statement demonstrates the problem much more clearly than I could. For starters, these students should all be the same “nationality”, American.

    Next, the way you prevent any student from being “left out” is by making sure they are included in activities that promote assimilation into American society, not by banning the activities themselves.

    We have gone to extremes in this country in the misguided attempt to welcome any and all foreign cultures to come here and set up shop just like they used to do in the old country. All of us are supposed to become “culturally sensitive” in order to accept “diversity”. What we get are ongoing fiascos like this one in the public schools, Islamic honor killings, Afro-American students rioting with Somali-American students, bans on displaying the American flag or even saying “Go USA”.

    This stuff is all straight out of Wonderland, and even Alice would have a hard time making any sense of it all. After abortion, big government is the harshest act we voluntarily bring upon ourselves.

    “This is done with all good intentions…”

    That libtard principal actually said that.
    I guess she never heard what the road to Hell is paved with.
    But, what am I thinking? Of COURSE she didn’t.

    @Chieftain, great rant.

    is it child abuse to let your children be “educated” in the public school system yet?

    socialization? why bother, so your child can be bullied by not only the other students but by the “educators” and staff themselves?

    It’s either diversity or safety. DHS could bring it down too, ya know.

    With a school stuffed full of candy, all the kids need is a bucket of molten potassium chlorate and the whole school could melt to the ground.

    In the aftermath of 9/11, my son’s middle school made a banner to send to a school in New York. All the kids were encouraged to sign it with a message of hope and encouragement. At the open-house later that month, the banner was on display. Parents were noticing that there were alot of whited-out patches on the banner. When the principle addressed the parents, the first thing she explained was that some of the students had written “God bless you,” “We’re praying for you,” or a reference to a bible verse or to God. These were not acceptable because “not everyone believes the same way.” Such sentiments had to disappear.

    Exclusion and intolerance in order to teach tolerance and inclusion. It’s the Liberal way!

    I can see some former student someday suing the school for 1.3 mil because she did not get the same number of valentine cards as the pretty girl. So i think the loony principal was just protecting the shcool’s money.
    Jeesh what a bunch of complete blubbering idiots we have to live with.
