    Congratulations on re-inventing the solenoid. It’s only been in common usage for over 75 years.

    If you want to make a rail gun I can offer a little of the old how to.

    It involves a biggish large DC power supply, copper rails the size of construction lumber and linear explosives.

    It will far exceed 16 miles an hour. By a shot, if you’ll pardon the pun.

    I have a potato cannon that will shoot a cylinder of ice all the way through a wooden door. Well, it did before I added a safety switch.
    It will lob them about 400 ft. at a 45° angle.

    Tell me this guy is a consultant on the Iranian ICBM program…

    On a side note…the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) class carrier now under construction (which is the follow on to the Nimitz class) will feature the EMALS or Electromagnetic Aircraft Launching System, which will feature four rail gun launchers instead of steam catapults. If you know anything about what is involved with piping four catapults with enough steam to launch F-14 Tomcats with a combat load, you know what a revolutionary weight savings that will be.

    Makes lots more room for gas and bullets…
