Excuse me. Since this was paid with an EBT, doesn’t that mean the entire bill is forgiven?

I just lost my job today. Yes, a little bummed. But one thing I did was sit down at my desk and figure out my budget. Where I could cut expenses and how to handle this on my own. One thing I refuse to do is go on food stamps. It is possible to make a budget and do what you need to do without expecting the government to pay for your food or you mortgage.

@Diann – Sorry to hear that!

When I explain the Tea Party platform of smaller government and lower taxes to my MSNBC addicted sister-in-law, her argument is, “Yeah, but you don’t mind getting Social Security and Medicare benefits!”

We have paid (a lot) into the system and deserve those benefits.

I would put EBT in the same category. You have paid a lot of taxes and should not be ashamed or too proud to take advantage of what YOU deserve.

So very sorry to hear about losing your job. I hope that another job possibility comes up soon.

I admire your decision about the food stamps. Consider rethinking if–God forbid–it gets to the near-starving point, okay? Originally they were supposed to be a temporary “tide-over” until things improved. I’m certain YOU wouldn’t stay on them a moment longer than absolutely necessary.

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. I am blessed to have the old fashioned sense to SAVE MONEY. I do not want to blow thru my savings, but it is a blessing to know I am not a borderline pauper. I qualify for unemployment and will be going on that. My company of ten years pays into unemployment for this very reason.

This was coming and I knew it was coming, so I was prepared. I do have one kick-ass iron in the fire that kind of sprang from the ashes like a glorious phoenix. It is an amazing opportunity and if it gels I will probably crow about it endlessly in these here comment sections.

In the meantime, I join a very nonexclusive, overpopulated club. We will all survive this because we Conservatives are stronger than this. This is what keeps me hopeful.

Sorry about your job, but I wouldn’t hesitate to get on every program available to you. Your company didn’t pay your UE, YOU DID! Your wages would have been much higher without your employer paying into UE.

Take the EBT and squirrel food away if you don’t need it now, you may need it someday and the fact is YOU HAVE PAID for the EBT as well.

Never be ashamed at doing so, there is no moral obligation, it is perfectly LEGAL and there should be NO GUILT if this is a freak occurrence in your life.

Forgot to add my prayers and thoughts will be with you Diann. I found myself in a situation once where I was on the receiving end of help instead of giving it. We grew up taking responsibility for ourselves and taking care of others so it’s very hard when we have to accept it. But I will be praying for your opportunity and await hearing about it, but like others have said, that safety net is there for you if you need it. You paid into it just in case, that just in case is here now. Take care of yourself.

Open doors and windows are always there – we just choose not to explore the possibilities when we got something going on already.

You follow your heart by doing what makes you happy. The hard part should be asking to be paid for something you’d do for free.

Having that problem should be a sign you’re doing it right.

This is just plain wrong!! We try to find the humor in it just so we won’t go insane. It’s bad enough that tens of millions of dollars are being cashed out on EBT cards and that these parasites are going on vacations that me and thee can no longer afford, but when the program is set up so that there is absoutely no oversight on what people are buying it guarantees this kind of buying. After all it’s not their money, is it?

    This just pisses me off!
