‘Gomer Pyle’ actor Jim Nabors marries longtime partner, Stan Cadwallader, in Seattle
82-year-old actor had been dating former Honolulu firefighter since 1975
HONOLULU — Jim Nabors, the actor best known for playing Gomer Pyle on TV in the 1960s, has married his longtime male partner.
Hawaii News Now reports Nabors, 82, and Stan Cadwallader, 64, traveled from their Honolulu home to Seattle to be married Jan. 15. Gay marriage became legal in Washington state last month.
The couple met in 1975 when Cadwallader was a Honolulu firefighter.
“I’m 82 and he’s in his 60s and so we’ve been together for 38 years and I’m not ashamed of people knowing, it’s just that it was such a personal thing, I didn’t tell anybody,” Nabors said. “I’m very happy that I’ve had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed. And, what can I tell you, I’m just very happy.”
Nabors said he’s been open about his homosexuality to co-workers and friends but never acknowledged it to the media before. He doesn’t plan to get involved in the issue politically.
“I’m not a debater. And everybody has their own opinion about this and actually I’m not an activist, so I’ve never gotten involved in any of this,” Nabors told Hawaii News Now.

“Stayun, kin ah stick ma finger in yore bellybutton?”
“Why sure, Gomer—GOMER! That’s not my belly button!!”
“Surprise, surprise Stayun…That ain’t mah finger, neither!”

I am surprised at the responses to give him a pass! This is how it has gotten as far as it has. I guess it proves that his ‘alternative lifestyle’ is gaining traction, even within the heterosexual community. Is it possible that those who are willing to look the other way in this case are experiencing some of this within their own families?

He’s always been a poofter. He creaped me out in an airport waiting room in Providence, RI when I was 15 and waiting on my flight back in ’69. He was WAY too friendly with a young blond athletic kid. He was dressed like a queen at the time. He has been allowed to make his own choices during this life time but that won’t continue in the next. That still doesn’t mean we should accept the impact his “marriage” has on our society and I think if you folks saying “give him a pass… I hope he’s happy” would think about it, you’ll agree that this is another stone on the pile crushing our Nation under a load of bogus, destroying concepts that are allied with the “hidden” if not overt effort at achieving that very thing.
What’s Right and True is right and true. Values may change but Principles are Eternal. You’re on One Side or the other. Make your choice and live with the consequences, but please don’t engage in that shallow thinking of “live and let live” and “to each his own”. People’s choices have consequences to all of us and to let their sinful, self-destructing choices go unremarked and unrebuked is to jump your stone on that pile destroying our People and our Nation.
On the plus side, those of us who have become Born Again Christians humbly walking our Walk with the Grace of God while daily taking the stick out of our own eyes, the Trumpet’s gonna sound any day now. We’re ready, whether it’s Gabriel’s or a Mack Truck’s. I hope the rest of you consider this Fact and make your choice for Salvation’s Freedom as well. Lord bless you guys.

If you’re a student of Biblical history, you’ll recognize the times that we live in. Everybody doing what is right in their own eyes. That which is good is called bad, that which is bad is called good. Times like these are always followed by crushing judgements by God. Those of us that realize that try to sound a warning, but it usually falls on deaf ears. Some things never change.
Billy Bob

Bad Brad, you are wrong. His may be a small stone in the stoning of America, but it’s a stone thrown none the less, no matter how “delicately”.
As for “don’t throw a stone” comments? I don’t think I know any Christians who advocate stoning or any other method of killing homosexuals, Marxists or any other manifestation of goofiness. But calling people out for their pushing homosexuality is a far cry from stoning someone to death. That kind of logic is more at home coming from a mindless Leftwinger drinking the KoolAid.
And BB, being a Christian isn’t something you do every Sunday. It means you’ve accepted the death of Jesus on the cross to pay for your own funky, deathly actions we all have done AND His Great “Getting Up” on that Sunday morning as He literally rose from the dead for our ability to live a new life in Him empowered by His Spirit. That’s the Good News of the Gospel, not going to church (though you should go to a Bible believing, teaching and Living church). But going to church doesn’t make someone a Christian any more than going into a barn makes someone a cow. You’d have to have a supernatural, personal encounter with the God of the Universe for either one to take place. Fortunately, you CAN have that encounter with the God of the Universe, Who’s Name is Jesus. Ask Him to forgive you just as you are, and to be the Lord of your life just as He will help you become. Stand up for Truth and what is Right, while being willing to love the sinner enough to tell him he’s wrong and is headed toward a literal hell unless he or she repents, which is simply choosing to allow your Creator to help you change your mind. Kind of similar to as if He was going to change you into a cow… You would have to just trust Him to do His Work in your life. And He will do it. THEN go to church and have a great time. Believer’s churches moving in the Spirt of God are a blast. You’ll be loved, you’ll learn things you’ve never dreamed and you’ll be built up to be ready to help others and to stand for the Truth, even if it requires your life. Or what you have left of it here on this side of Eternity.

Nice John Wayne quote but for my Eternal Destiny as well as my REAL LIFE of fulness here on Earth, I think I’ll stick with what the Lord has to say, which is quite a bit different from what the Duke said in that clip. That wasn’t a whole lot different from what Tacticus wrote. He and John Wayne are both dead. Jesus isn’t.

Billy Bob, Your giving me a freaken headache. I said in church every Sunday, I didn’t say that;s the only time I try and practice the word. I am so far from perfect it would make your head spin. But I gotta be honest I read Born Again, I run the other direction. I want to ask, what happened the first time around. Dude, I’m just doing the best I can, and so is Gomer. Get off my ass.
Billy Bob
January 31st, 2013
Bad Brad, unlike Gomer, I have no desire to ever be on your ass.
The problem is that you really do need to learn about the One you spend time with on Sundays and practice the Word.
Being Born Again isn’t something that makes people into a Jesus Freak. It’s the process God uses for making freaks into people, the way they were designed to be. It’s truly a good thing with millions of good people, each one unique and different but literally changed into One, which is kind of hard to explain in a forum like this but it’s worth the effort IF this has caused you or others to think.
There’s no hostility coming from me, although Born Again people actually ARE perfect in our Position, but certainly not our performance. We work on that every day in yielding to the Spirit.
You’d find the literal Love of your life while also finding and learning the ongoing answers to your life and having an incredible time while doing it.
I was living a life of King on the mountain, having the best this world could offer but the Lord gave me His full Life and now I’m serving the King OF the Mountain and living a Life I’d have never dreamed of before. I’m no shrinking violet. I’m involved with international business and politics. I’m making all I can so I can give all I can. And I have no guilt, no real worries and no fear. Pretty good deal and He’s offering the same kind of fullness in life to you and everybody else reading this conversation, though you’ll have your own calling and Life.
I don’t have your name, but don’t be surprised at some situations that start taking place in your life causing you to think about what I’ve said. I’m going to be praying for you, “Bad Brad”. Lord bless you Pard.

While living in CA in the 70′s I had a good friend who worked as a stunt man. When movie work was slow he did remodeling/repair for people in the “biz.” We were discussing whether Gomer was gay one night at the bar, the rumor being that he was living with Rock Hudson. I was skeptical until my friend told the story of the time he got a call from Mr. Hudson’s people to come by & give an estimate for some work. When he knocked on the door, guess who answered? Jim Nabors.
Being somewhat naive in those days I still gave him a small benefit of the doubt, figuring he and Rock were just close friends, no harm to me but it was still creepy to think about it, and still is.
I’ve always had a problem with people using tools for other than their intended purpose.

I happen to be a politically conservative lesbian. I was born this way and after 35 years of struggling I have finally accepted my own innate reality and I am happy for once. Not everybody out there is a flamboyant activist gay. And yes I voted for Mitt Romney, I don’t give a shit if I ever get married to my girlfriend nor would I feel it was a traditional marriage even if I did. I see the difference. I will quietly live my life and not throw it in people’s faces… but I guarantee I’m not a pervert or evil person… and the fact that I vote conservative proves that I’m not stupid either. I only write this because of some of the comments I read. I think if you met me in person you would see that I’m not worthy of eternal hell and hatred. Not all gays are flamboyant, ‘perverted’, liberals bastards… so watch the judgement… you have insulted a fellow conservative, god-loving woman. Excuse me for not having the convenience of being straight. Sorry to rant but some of the comments were hurtful.
