Kansas Bill Aims to Begin the State Income Tax Phase Out

Governor Brownback and the Kansas Senate have taken a step forward in the fight to phase out the state’s individual income tax with the introduction of SB 78

The Senate Committee on Assessment and Taxation responded to the call by Governor Brownback in his State of the State Address to phase out the states income tax, with the filing of SB 78. Governor Brownback expressed in his address the need to reform the Sunflower states income tax rates in order to compete with neighboring states, especially Texas which has no state income tax. When speaking about his proposed plan, Governor Brownback stated, “What this is is a plan, a strategy that gets us to job growth,”

    Income taxes are immoral.

    But I believe Kansas has many other taxes, sufficient to fleece the productive and assuage the parasitic.

    As much as we hate the idea of a VAT, a sales tax is the fairest– everybody pays the same.

    Problem is, the PTB would never consider using it to REPLACE an existing tax, but would certainly ADD it to our tax burden given half a chance.

    @ Billy- True. But doesn’t Tulsa have more trial lawyers per capita than any other American city? Hardly a bastion of conservatism.
