Car theft is too common a crime in Chicago, with more than 16,000 last year alone. One Chicago car owner took a drastic step to prevent thieves from taking his ride.

CBS 2’s Dana Kozlov tracked down a young man who was willingly clamping a Denver Boot on the front wheel of his car.

Usually drivers do anything to avoid getting the boot, which prevents a car from being able to move.

Not this guy, who we’ll call Rafal. The 20-year-old was caught on tape slapping one on his own car, and at first avoided CBS 2’s camera.

Asked why he was doing it, he said, “so nobody steals it.”

Initially, we didn’t believe him, thinking perhaps the young driver owed the city of Chicago money for parking tickets, and was using the boot as a decoy.

But he said he didn’t have any outstanding tickets, and a check of his license plate number confirmed there were no unpaid tickets for his car, and no outstanding violations on his license.

Why was CBS able to “check…his license plate number”?

Great idea!! I know of a THIEF who left Chicago and now lives in D.C.! I’d like to slap his mother for raising such a kid.

I use a 40′ half inch wire rope on my car. I park next to a tree and run the rope thru the windows and around a tree. I take the front tires off and carry them with me. Seems to work,no one ever steals MY car.

WTH? A TV station “checking” a license plate number? This is so wrong on so many levels.

Yeah, I wondered the same thing… Why is CBS able to get info? Did they have a judge on speed-dial?
If they were worried this guy was a criminal, why not call a cop and ask him to run the plates?

No way he’s a native Chicagoan – he thinks too much.

Those clamp things aren’t cheap. If I had to live in that racist shithole, I would have spent that money on a U-haul trailer to move the hell out of there.

And by the way, I am surrounded by armed “right-wing terrorists” yet I can leave my doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition and never have to worry about some 0bama-luvin son of a bitch shopping for free shit near my house.
