Oh give ma a home where the buffalo roam and I’ll show you a dirty house…but it will still be cleaner than Detroit.
Do people in S. Dakota think they live in the West or the Midwest? I’m never sure just how far the Midwest stretches. Does the Midwest include Kentucky? How about Missouri?
Its kinda like being middle class. A lot of people claim to be middle class when in fact they are lower upper class or upper lower class.
John Bernard Books
People in that string of states running from Texas north to the Canadian border refer to ourselves as living in the “Prairie States.”
Fur, this was great to see. I hope it becomes a regular Friday feature.
@John, illustr8r posted this, and yes; it’s a regular feature now.
My wife and I have had this argument for years, but she stands tall that Belle Fourche is the center of the U.S..
@Jeckelmyhyde she has a point
Boobie the Rocket Dog
Just gorgeous! Makes me want to get nekkid, put on my knee-high SNAKE boots and just run through the fields like … like … like whatshisname from Monty Python.
Truly beautiful in so many ways!
Few years ago I drove 165 miles of back roads in the Black Hills with my dog just as winter was coming on and only passed a dozen or so vehicles the whole time. Spent a week there.
Didn’t go to Mt Rushmore to see the three land surveyors and the other guy carved on the hill. I stay away from the crowds.
The Black Hills still belong to the Lakota, and the government is still trying to get them to accept payment in exchange for the rights of ownership. Gov has possession without rights.
@illustr8r – thanks so much for posting that. Good to be reminded that those wide open spaces still exist – and I loved seeing the bison and mustangs running free.
This truly is a land worth fighting for.
