U.S. debt limit vote set for Wednesday; Obama likely to sign

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A measure to extend the U.S. debt limit for nearly four months moved closer on Tuesday to a vote and the White House said the president would sign the bill if it cleared Congress, easing uncertainty that could have threatened the U.S. economy.
You see, it was the “uncertainty” that we might not borrow more money that is threatening the US economy. Not the massive amount of debt we have racked up.
The debt limit “suspension,” which would allow the government to borrow money until May 19, is due to come to a vote in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives on Wednesday without amendments.
House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions of Texas said he believed the measure would achieve “near unanimous support” from the House Republican caucus, which would guarantee its passage.
How wonderful! We wouldn’t want any dirty amendments involving spending cuts messing this up. Being able to borrow more money from the Chinese is too important to play around with.
President Barack Obama “would not stand in the way of the bill becoming law,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said earlier at a briefing. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has similarly expressed approval.
Isn’t compromise beautiful? And just look at all the wonderful things the Republicans got for caving.

Unfortunately, my state’s (all GOP) congressional delegation is very “establishment oriented”. They won’t be pulling any surprise moves and deviating from the official party line to vote for what’s ultimately right.

What was it Republicans were saying about “we’re not going to give him an open checkbook”? Well, its freaking happening!
The GOP should’ve let the default happen, andrun daily commercials showing it would be Obama not giving out SS checks and opting instead to paying the Chinese to prevent default.
Call his bluff, Obama was using the threat because a default meant automatic spending cuts which he’ll have no part of and has proclamated it on a regular basis. The spending cuts would’ve paid for the SS checks.
The GOP needs to spend every dime they got on daily tv commercials, not just the occasional ones or commercials during elections only. If they don’t stop him now they never will and this automatic cut would’ve automatically stopped his spending spree.
Because you can bet Harry, isn’t going to introduce another budget again, so the spending and cieling issue will just keep rising.
The default isn’t what Obama fears, its the stock market crashing based on default fears, which is artificially propped up now and the only thing that even slightly makes it look like things are improving.
The artificial hyperinflated Stock Market crashes and he’s toast and he knows it.
