Get ready for scan-and-frisk.

The NYPD will soon deploy new technology allowing police to detect guns carried by criminals without using the typical pat-down procedure, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Wednesday.

The department just received a machine that reads terahertz — the natural energy emitted by people and inanimate objects — and allows police to view concealed weapons from a distance.

“If something is obstructing the flow of that radiation, for example a weapon, the device will highlight that object,” Kelly said.

A video image aired at a Police Foundation breakfast Wednesday showed an officer, clad in a New York Jets jersey and jeans, with the shape of a hidden gun clearly visible under his clothing when viewed through the device.

The department will begin testing the high-tech device for use on the street. The device is small enough to be placed in a police vehicle or stationed at a street corner where gunplay has occurred in the past.

Hey, waitaminute! What about probable cause? Will they only be using this if they can prove they have a reason to scan someone? Won’t NAAPC scream “profiling”?

Oh, I see. It’s ObamaWorld…nothing makes sense anymore, especially laws.

That looks like the Power Droid in Star Wars.

I don’t mean to heavily insult the Power Droid.

Would aluminum foil wrapped around the weapon defeat the machine?

Maybe a sequined boob belt would do the same.

I wonder if it will detect the jammer I’m gonna build if they try to use that shit on law-abiding citizens in my area.

Apparently it’s a blackbody radiation so wrapping the gun in tinfoil isn’t gonna help. It doesn’t penetrate liquid water or metal, so I’m guessing they get a silhouette of the gun. Some experimentation should be done, but as a blackbody radiation, getting the gun to body temperature and keeping it there might make it invisible.

Loads of fun to be had cutting “gun” shapes from thin sheet-metal and wearing those, painted pink or something. Fashion accessories, y’know.

My first reaction was the same as bullman’s.

My second was, “Will it detect a ‘printed’ weapon?”

    Claudia, spot on!
Use Bullman ideal and presto a big fat lawsuit!
You can’t search without probable cause and/or search warrant. The machine is the search prior to probable cause for the physical search.
But then again, with all the laws that has been passed without reading them, who knows.

    Well fuck that.

Now if they could only come up with an idiot or progtard scanner, they could truly eliminate the real threat to america.

and I wonder if it’ll pick up on those illegal 64 oz sodas or pain medicines as well?
Der Fuhrer Bloomberg should be happy.

Yes, cutting guns out of tinfoil or painting them on your T-shirt with metalized paint should do the trick.

Hmmm. Been watching Death Mask on H2 channel for the last 90 minutes. The show spins a lot of time on analysis of Lincoln’s death mask.

They claim, in an experiment, they had a very high success rate of picking out the higher ranked students at one of the military academies by analyzing the face mask of the students.

Seems your attitude, mindset , or self image changes your face. Various illnesses change your face too. Maybe the Minority Report face scanners are on the horizon.

Combine the face scanner with the weapons scanner and they have their man when the face indicates a belief in the Bill of Rights and the weapons scanner reveals you’re armed.
