Bumped with updates – GEICO Drops Auto Coverage Because the Vehicle is Associated with Guns
HT/ mayonesa
UPDATE: Truth About Guns reports that they have spiked this story with the explanation that “it didn’t pan out.” I have no idea what that means. Maybe it’s a photoshop? This might be a clue -
Does that representative’s signature say “Dipstickia”?!! – Corky
UPDATE 2 – Via The Last Refuge
The letter is not a photoshop. It is a commercial coverage cancellation which some feel makes it different than a personal policy.
The cancellation notification was mailed December 6th. Prior to Newtown etc…, and again people feels it makes a different story.
Bottom line stands quite distinct, at least to me.
[your vehicle is used in ] conjunction with a company that deals in the weapons industry.
That is the reason for the cancellation. No need to project reasoning on to the cancellation notice, just read it. If the vehicle is used in conjunction with a company that deals in the weapons industry they will not provide coverage. Yet GEICO advertise for business from people who use their vehicles to work in the Dept. of Defense.

Looks like a good opportunity for other insurance companies to take advantage of.
When a bus. cuts hours, employees, whatever don’t we tell the whiners to start their own if they think it’s so easy?
There is free marketing opportunity to be had here with consertvative businesses getting a bump.

A call to the letter’s recipient should clear up any authenticity question, once and for all.

so Geico, who insures/insured military vehicles, won’t allow gun businesses to be insured under them?
Interesting.

If those who support the gun industries do not use GEICO they may or may not change their tune, but at least they will see the impact of their decision.

I don’t have my insurance coverage with Geico for many reasons — many of which involve their revolting commercials — I despise the “cavemen”, the lizard that should be squished, etc. That being said, I’d be very interested in reading the insurance policy to see the specific coverages and exclusions.

I actually used my compyuterz features that weren’t around back 20+ years ago when I first learned.
The company name on the policy is Short Lane, LLC out of Montana. Never heard of them, but it appears they primarily make adapters that allow guns to shoot different caliber cartridges. Here’s their website.
