Rush found yet another example of Obama using the term corpse-man in a speech. I maintain that this was a deliberate “scratch yourself with your middle finger” slap at the military. I’m waiting to see if anyone can find an example of Obama mispronouncing Ameri-corps.

The sad thing is, because he is a veteran, he will likely be buried with military honors, despite the dishonor he heaped on our Marines. I’m with BFH–I didn’t wish it on him, but we all die. My condolences to his family, but the world’s a slightly better place this afternoon.

    ABSCAM
Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) was one of the Congressmen videotaped[6] in an encounter with undercover FBI operatives.[7] Although never indicted or prosecuted, he was named an “unindicted co-conspirator” in the scandal.[citation needed] As such, he testified against Frank Thompson (D-NJ) and John Murphy (D-NY), the two Congressmen mentioned as participants in the deal at the same meeting. A short clip from the videotape shows Murtha stating “I’m not interested, I’m sorry. At this point…” in direct response to an offer of $50,000 in cash.[8]
In November 1980, the Justice Department announced that Murtha would not face prosecution for his part in the scandal. The U.S. Attorney’s Office reasoned that Murtha’s intent was to obtain investment in his district. Full length viewing of the tape shows Murtha citing prospective investment opportunities that could return “500 or 1000″ miners to work. In July 1981, the House Ethics Committee also chose not to file charges against Congressman Murtha, following a mostly party line vote. The resignation later that day of Republican E. Barrett Prettyman, Jr., the panel’s special counsel, has been interpreted as an act of protest.[9]
Mr. Murtha remained prominent in Congress, and was re-elected by his constituency 13 times over the course of 26 years before his death on Feb. 8, 2010.[10]

May I remind everyone what Judge Mountain Landis said about Joe Jackson, who was banned for life from baseball when he didn’t accept bribe money to throw the series, he said Jackson knew about the bribes and said nothing. He might as well have taken the damn bribe. Same thing applies to Murtha. He didn’t take the money… yet. But he never turned the operation in either. Scumbucket.

You folks have mighty short and selective memories. Murtha, for all his faults, was a hawk and long-time supporter of the military beginning in 1974 when first elected while still a Reserve Marine. He was regarded as the champion of the serving military for almost all of his career. He voted to authorize W to use force after 9/11 and approved of the invasion of Iraq.

It was only after the administration’s mishandling, as he regarded it, of the war in Iraq that he stood up and criticized. In most ways, he was proved correct.

He also held in high regard the honorable members of the armed forces and sought to separate those he regarded as rogue or dishonorable from the vast majority. He understood as well as anybody the “hearts and minds” problems that arise when troops run amok, as some of ours definitely did.

Much of the criticism of him here and in the earlier thread focus on your perceptions that was anti-military and nothing could be further from the truth.

I agree, however, with all the observations about his corruption as a pay-to-play pol. He stood out in a crowd of deeply corrupt fellow pols, and that’s really saying something. But kindly note that the corruption is most assuredly nonpartisan; there are plenty of dirty Dems, Reps, libs, and neocons.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 5 Thumb down 8

Al, WRONG! Those Haditha marines were slandered by this POS, before they had their day in court. When they were exonerated, he refused to apologize. Now, I know you are a Paulistinian, fine. You think America should not protect herself by fighting terrorists outside of our borders, or help other nations fight terrorism (especially Israel)- fine. But do not tell us that our memories are ’selective’, just because you agree with Murtha’s anti war rhetoric. Murtha said what he said to make a political point at the expense of those marines- period.
And for the use of the term ‘neo-con’, I know where you are going with it, and frankly, I don’t care for it.

Murtha calling Marines murderers notwithstanding. I still have issues with the fact that he received a Purple Heart for a scratch that he can’t even accurately describe on the paperwork the he himself initiated for it. I might ad that was while he was serving as an intelligence officer in a rear area.

I have put too many Marines on medi-vac helicopters that were awarded the same Purple Heart for actual wounds, some fatal. It’s pseudo heroes like Murtha that diminish the award itself.

Al, my comment was not meant for you to deflect the subject from our ’selective’ memory of Murtha’s politically motivated slander to moi, but I will bite. You know what the connotation of that term is. The left co-opted that term and has made it derogatory to a certain group. I shan’t embarrass you here, after all, we are all among friends.
I remember the Paul comment,(it only takes one, BTW), but in conjunction with other comments, it was an easy deduction. It’s OK- some things Paul says even I agree with.

OK, Cakes, in a similar friendly manner, I do take exception to your use of the clearly insulting and derogatory term “Paulistinian” with all its connotations, as well as your assumptions about my views based on that one reference. Specifically, anyone trying to kill me or mine is my enemy and subject to my summary application of lethal force to remove him as a threat.

As for Haditha, Murtha called it as he saw it, and he saw it largely based on his conversations with others who were there. Was it slander? Legally, perhaps or perhaps not; I don’t remember if he made his comments on the floor of the House. But would you or any other honorable person (kindly note I’m not talking about Murtha here) who believed something to be true and found lack of agreement elsewhere admit error when you did not believe yourself to be wrong?

As for exoneration, I flatly reject and ignore all findings by any group any where any time that purports to investigate alleged wrongdoing by its own members.

Finally, you have made an error by connecting my (partial) approval of Murtha’s disapproval of the way the Iraq war was being handled with my observation that no comments here at all mentioned the many years of support that Murtha provided the U.S. military.

One more think, Cakes, you said, “I remember the Paul comment,(it only takes one, BTW), but in conjunction with other comments, it was an easy deduction. It’s OK- some things Paul says even I agree with.”

Your deduction should embarrass you. I admire Ron Paul for many of his principled positions but I disagree with him on more than one fundamental matter.

The “it only takes one” comment should further embarrass you. It sounds rather a lot like an old and ugly criterion for racial classification in days I’m glad to say are long gone.

First my condolences to his family. Losing somebody is always a hard time.

However, Pelosi pontificating about losing a “Great Patriot” about made me lose my lunch. Rep. Murtha served in the Marine Corps, including as a Drill Instructor, VOLUNTEERED to return to full active duty to serve in vietnam. For that he does deserve to be honored.

HOWEVER: this is a happy moment for all the folks on Capitol Hill dreading more Murtha Moments, since I see they’ve dragggged their feet investigating the lastest ‘cash for contracts’ bit he was involved in.

TERM LIMITS. I can’t scream it loud enough. They say that two terms isn’t long enough to learn their jobs, but damn, its good enough for the president isn’t it?

@Tammy, “If someone serves in the military and then kills their own family, are they still heroes because they served?”

It depends on if that individual is suffering mental fatigue or PTSD. Combat related mental illness can take many forms and it only requires a trigger stimuli to set the individual off.

I understand the point you’re trying to make, but I just wanted to interject my 2cents worth. :)

One may serve with honor, even distinction, and still be a scumbag. His life spanned 77 years. He was a career politician – so truth, honor, integrity, fortitude, and justice were pliable concepts for him. I never heard that he left someone to drown in his car or committed murder, so I refuse to judge him – but I am glad he’s gone.

I was on vacation and came home to find that Murtha the worthless POS was dead. I hope that he is hell with his back broke and that the devil is f*cking him up the ass. For more details on the wheelings and dealings of this dead turd and the way his friend Pelosi covered him look here:
