The King of the Bike Path!
What a friggin dunce. It slowly dawns on this Fife that he’s writing a ticket that will be thrown out (because of the dotted yellow line) so he simply makes up a charge and writes that ticket.
He’s servin and protectin.

California: I hope they give the biker a $1000 ticket and 90 days in jail.
Is it wrong to hope for the worst for ‘blue staters’?

Its painful to watch the officer try to justify giving the citizen a hard time about something so trivial.

My neck of the woods. I have ridden on the path, but avoid it because it is used by walkers, skaters etc. despite those being illegal. There is no speed limit, whether you’re a touring speed demon or a tyke on training wheels. Very dangerous when crowded – I prefer mountain dirt roads & trails.

I like that the cop changed his mind to give the guy a “Catch-All” ticket and then actuay called it that on camera. It just proves that if they want to, they can give anyone a fine for something. We have laws for everything and it is up to the discretion of the “officers” to dole out the fines as they see fit. This bike rider said something that upset the cop and so therefore had to be punished no matter what. You can’t have the population standing up for their rights because then they might think those rights are secure.

If you are respectful of authority figures, as you should be, they will respect you. He could have have made his argument and got off with a warning. Without cops patrolling this beach, you wouldn’t want to be there at all. So make yourself a little more pleasant when he is doing his job and he wont feel compelled to stick a ticket up yer ass.

Personally, I’m siding with the cop. I think all “Lance wannabe” bicyclists should get a ticket every time they ride. I walk on a bike path close to my house and there is a sign posted on who has the right of way. Pedestrians have first right of way, horses second, and bicyclists third. I’ve been passed by bicyclists that don’t give a damn about safety, right next to the right of way sign! They ignore it and flip me off when I point out the sign.
They can all rot in hell.

BS, Milwaukee Mike, too many cops think “Contempt of Cop” is a jailing offense. I say too many cops misuse the power granted them by the People. Those cops should probably work for the Post Office, where they can’t enforce their arbitrary whims at the point of a gun.

This is not unlike the actions and attitude of the TSA. Surely the cop could have found a better way to spend his time and energy…or maybe not.
Common sense must have taken a day off.

I was stopped for a similar move, only I drove over the yellow painted triangle to enter a left turn lane. When I was stopped after making the left turn, I was right next to another yellow painted triangle to make a left turn going the opposite direction. Only the cars going my direction were now crossing over the opposite direction yellow lines to go around the cop and me. I called him out on it after he handed my ticket and he gave me the same “people passing an emergency vehicle” bullshit.
I decided it was time to go after the look he gave me when I said; “Where’s the emergency?”

old_oaks, I blame the guy who thought it was a good idea to paint lines on the ground and enforce them with police action.
Control, control, control.A reason to mess with you.
Funny how there would not have been any incident to talk about if the police were 50 feet over and not in the way. Without the cop present – nothing would have happened in that short moment he was moving down the path.

@Moe Tom — Yes, they are huge douchebags even on the bike paths. Where that specific bike path intersects a main road, there is no bike lane on the same side of the road as the bike path. The sidewalk is double-wide to accommodate both bikes and pedestrians. There are even bicycles painted on the sidewalk to show it is a lawful bike path. But where do the Lance wannabe douchebags ride their bikes? Yep. In the road, obstructing traffic, in violation of the vehicle code. And none are ticketed.
