Daily Caller

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was indicted Friday on charges that he used his office for personal gain, accepting payoffs, free trips and gratuities from contractors while the city was struggling to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

The charges against Nagin are the outgrowth of a City Hall corruption investigation that already has resulted in guilty pleas by two former city officials and two businessmen and a prison sentence for a former city vendor.

The federal indictment accuses Nagin of accepting more than $160,000 in bribes and truckloads of free granite for his family business in exchange for promoting the interests of a local businessman who secured millions of dollars in city contract work after the 2005 hurricane. The businessman, Frank Fradella, pleaded guilty in June to conspiracy to commit bribery and has been cooperating with federal authorities.

Corruption in Nig Orleans where even a Marine in his dress uniform can get slaughtered walking down the street? Where the “police” organize looting parties? Where the natives shoot at rescue helicopters? Where the cops confiscate hurricane survivors’ arms at gunpoint? You mean to tell me Chocolate City Nagin, the nonracist who can’t start a school bus to save thousands of lives, is corrupt?

Ray Nagin was indicted Friday on charges that he used his office for personal gain, accepting payoffs, free trips and gratuities from contractors…

As I recall, Republican Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham was charged with similar crimes, resigned and plead guilty, and was sentenced to 7 years.

Come on, Mr. Chocolate! Do the honorable thing. Enter a guilty plea and take the 7 years! As a democrat, you can always put all that on your resume’ for future public-sector jobs.

I could be mistaken here, but…
What a perfect time for an indictment.

The US attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Jim Letten is stepping down and will be replaced by an obama appointee…so yall dont get your high hopes up that Nagin will serve a single day…
