MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (WABC) — A woman was stabbed inside the Bed, Bath & Beyond on Route 35 in Middletown, Monmouth County.
Law enforcement sources say this was random.
The victim didn’t know the suspect.
Tyrik Haynes is being held on $1 million bail. The 19-year-old stands accused of attempted murder.
Witnesses say the 29-year-old woman was stabbed several times, suffering significant blood loss, inside the busy Bed Bath and Beyond store.
“We thought he was kind of weird looking because he was very shaky. But we didn’t think anything of it but then a customer runs into the store and screaming can you help me can you help me a lady got stabbed,” said Anne Patl, a witness.
Anne Patl works at the Staples next door.
She says what happened next was chilling.
“He ran to the back of the store and picked a customer and just stabbed her. And she had a baby in her hands. He walked out of the store. He didn’t run. He walked out like nothing happened,” Patl said.
Middletown Police talked to customers and employees and examined evidence from the crime scene that’s left residents stunned.
