The head of the National Right to Life Committee is suggesting a recent article implying the abortion movement has been losing ground since a landmark Supreme Court ruling 40 years ago may be just a ploy to rally that movement’s activists.
TIME magazine cover (Jan. 14, 2013)In her cover article for this week’s issue of TIME magazine, staff writer Kate Pickert makes the case that while pro-abortion forces won their victory in 1973 (in Roe v. Wade), they may have been losing the battle ever since.
“Thanks to prenatal ultrasound, Americans now understand what a fetus looks like and that babies born as early as 24 weeks can now survive,” Pickert writes in the article. She also states: “… At the state level, abortion-rights activists are unequivocally losing. These laws make it harder every year to exercise a right heralded as a crowning achievement of the 20th century women’s movement.”
Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee, cautions the public not to be misled into thinking the liberal news magazine is now pro-life. She believes TIME’s article may have simply been pro-abortion strategy.
