First Antibiotic-Resistant Gonorrhea Cases Detected in North America

Completely incurable gonorrhea may be at hand

Gonorrhea infects close to 700,000 Americans each year.

The fears of major health organizations have come true: Gonorrhea that is immune to the last remaining effective oral antibiotic has been detected in at least nine North American patients, meaning the era of “incurable” gonorrhea could be close.

In a study released Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association, a group of scientists led by Vanessa Allen of Public Health Ontario, found that 6.7 percent of patients with gonorrhea at a Toronto clinic still had the disease after a round of cephalosporins, the last effective oral antibiotic used to treat the disease. Of 133 patients who returned for a “test of cure” visit, nine remained gonorrhea-positive. This is the first time cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhea has been found in humans in North America.

Last year, both the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control warned that untreatable gonorrhea—the world’s second most common sexually transmitted infection—could soon be a reality as the bacteria showed increasing resistance to cephalosporins in lab tests.

“These are the clinical cases we’ve been waiting for,” Allen says. “This is the translation of the lab information into what the clinical consequence is.”

Previously, there had been a couple individual case reports of untreatable gonorrhea cases in the United Kingdom, Austria, France, Norway, and Japan. In an accompanying editorial, Robert Kirkcaldy of the CDC writes that gonorrhea is quickly becoming a more threatening disease.

OK – time to stop messing around.
    Bring back the assylums:
    for the insane
    for the TB infected
    for the STD infected

50 years ago we almost had STDs, malaria and TB wiped off the planet (well, at least the civilized part).
Now we are rapidly regressing to where we were 100 years ago.

A long time ago I read an article about why this was happening even back then.

Remember when we were kids and had a throat infection? The doctor would swab your throat and run it over an agar-filled petri dish. When the culture grew and could be recognized, the doctor gave you a specific antibiotic that would kill the infection.

Now, that doesn’t happen. You are given a generic antibiotic with instructions to take it for 14 days. No tests, no nothing. This is why the strains of STD are becoming resistant to antibiotics.

However, since most of these diseases are to be found in the porn industry and the “free love” OWS-type crowd, this just means that you will have to check your partner’s political affiliation before…well…this.

You can purchase antibiotics OTC in most of the under developed countries, i.e. shitholes streaming undocumented democrats in the USA. Hookers take the meds, feel better then quit before taking a full course, probably due to cost, providing selective pressure for PPNG and now cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhea.

Liberalism IS a disease of human misery. Don’t be surprised when the Liberalism Vector carries other diseases with it like plague lice.

It’s all the germ phobia being spread by the antibacterial soap ads.

My God, let your kids wallow in the mud, wipe their boogers on their jeans, cough and sneeze into the air. So your kid gets a cold. Let it run it’s course and be done with it.

    Sheesh, people.

ps, I was sick with pneumonia and rheumatic fever when I was 3. My mom had to decide if she was going to let the doctor put me on antibiotics for the rest of my life or just deal with whatever whenever it happened. Thank God she chose NOT to give me the antibiotics.

I’ll bet Obamacare will cover this.

Wonder if thats actually the case, or if the dumbasses went back and hit it again, but were to embarassed to tell the docs.

My sons frinds did this one time. 1 of them hooked up with a dancer skank, well the next thing you know, they were all fighting because apparently they all were tapping her, and they all caught the CLap.
Then 1 of them being so horny for this hot, young nympho, decided it was so good he’d hit it again….and got reinfected.
Thats how they found out he was still hitting it after they all decided they’d never hit it again or let a piece of ass come between them.

When your young, dumb and horney…….., they might want to keep them in a secured area to be sure this isn’t what happened……..not saying this is the case here but you never know.

Just think of all the problems that would go away if everyone lived in the boring, old-fashioned, traditional way.

For those of us who do, stories like this sort of make us shrug. Not much for me to fear.

Claudia you are so right. Dirt is good. If more people would let there kids just, well, be kids, when they are young they would have less colds and other ailments when they get older. Antibacterial products should not be used unless you have a compromised immune system. Our daughter who is now 17 has been on antibiotics once, it should be the drug of last choice that parents make when the doctor says take this it will clear “it” up.
Oh, and guess which group is this strain of non treatable gonorrhea coming from, man to man then man to woman. This started back in 2005- 2006. These people are playing around in the wrong kind of dirt.

Just read an article that up to 800,000 baby boomers have Hepatitis C and don’t know it yet. And many won’t know until liver failure or cancer. The bill is coming due for all that free love. Time to pay up, hippies.

I was listening to a guy on the radio this morning talking about the new Oxygen Network series coming up about a guy who has 11 children with 10 different women. I’d like to slap each of those women in the face and ask them why in the hell they were having unprotected sex with a guy who had been with AT LEAST 9 other women. Not only are they producing another generation of welfare babies, they’re possibly spreading incurable diseases. Does anyone have an self-control these days?

Yeah, no offense to the loose, but if you have untreatable highly infectious diseases, you need to be kept in a lead room and not let out.
We’ll send you pizzas now and then.

    No kidding, Buck.
People entering illegally and legally are not checked for anything. It used to be when you entered the US LEGALLY, you were tested for TB, etc. Not nowadays.

there should be stiff penalties for those that assault us with their diseases. death penalty for spreading you infectous disease among those you come in contact with.

we need sex free zones in all our schools, public buildings and churches.

If you don’t want the clap keep your pecker in your pants and refuse to go along with the bogus and siren sounding (as well as visual) hookup culure. From the Message Bible, Proverbs 6; Adultery is a brainless act, soul-destroying, self-destructive; Expect a bloody nose, a black eye and a reputation ruined for good… Nothing good comes from cheap sex!
