I’ll have the stack of stupid with a side of moron. And bring us a bottle of idiot.

DENNYS

“The Belleville Police Department is very disheartened by the lack of respect shown to on-duty sworn police officers, Capt. Don Sax said in a statement to Fox News. “Until further notice all on duty Belleville Police officers are banned from Denny’s Restaurant unless responding to an official call for service.”

The incident occurred on New Year’s Day when five detectives were eating at the restaurant. A manager approached their table and told one of the detectives that she had to take her weapon out to her car or leave the restaurant.

The detectives initially thought it was a joke, Sax said, noting that all of the officers had displayed their badges and several police radios were on the table.

“(The manager) stated that he had a complaint from another customer about the weapon and she had to take the weapon outside or leave,” he said.

The manager told the detectives that Denny’s only allows officers in uniform to carry weapons. The detectives said that wasn’t going to happen so they got up to leave.

Sax said the restaurant’s general manager eventually came over and said it was fine for the detectives to be in the restaurant.

You can’t fix stupid. Really ? Asking a gun toting police officer from your place of business?
Are you trying to attract robbers? You deserved to be robbed.

Ummmmmm, remember, we’re talking Denny’s here. Not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Low-information, high-emotion manipulated folks. You get the picture.

Wait a minute. The restaurant has a manager and a general manager? On duty on New Year’s Day? Hmmm.

I’m thinking comps for the whole Police Department, if it’s even permitted.

‘Cause next to Dunkin Donuts, police LOVE Denny’s. And Denny’s REAL management would not allow one loose cannon employee to jeopardize the advantage of having police officers in the place as often as possible.

They should have told the complainer who they were and then ask the complainer to leave.

Boobie, wasn’t Sambo’s what Denny’s used to be named before they got into trouble for racial discrimination in the 70′s. The Sambo’s in my city used to have coffee for .25 cents with free refills. I drank about 20 or more cups of coffee one night with a bunch of my friends. Good thing I was in my early 20′s then, I never did that again.

In my travels I have stopped at several Denny’s restaurants over the years. Though I haven’t entered one for twenty years. Because 80 to 90% of the time the service was lousy. More than once twenty to 30 minutes passed before anyone took my order and this was not in the same restaurant but in different Denny’s in different states.

About 20 years ago some folks complained that no one took their order for over thirty minutes and successfully sued Denny’s for racial discrimination and won. Which I thought was nonsense and it ticked me off. Denny’s wasn’t discriminating against them because of the color of their skin. Whether you are black or white Denny’s delivers the same terrible service with out prejudice. Now they are offering an increased chance of being shot should you choose to enter. Makes you wonder how they stay in business.
otoh, every Perkins restaurant I have been in was very good.

@aardvark – Wow, if Sambo’s became Denny’s that offers a new interesting slant to the story. But I don’ think that is correct except perhaps in certain locations where a Sambo’s was brought out by a Denny’s franchise.

Why should they get special treatment?

The only people that benefit from a disarmed society are criminals and legal criminals (cops)

Far as I’m concerned, whoever owns the property calls the shots.

Be that as it may, why, as a society, are we always falling all over ourselves to accommodate the whiners and complainers?

you’d think they’d give them free meals just for showing up with their guns.

Wow, when I was working midnights we used to eat at Denny’s all the time. There really was no place else to go where you weren’t surrounded by drunken idiots. The managers and staff knew us all by name and were happy to see us whether in uniform or not.

@Blink – the Denny’s here in central NY have always had good service, but the Denny’s south of the Mason Dixon line? Not so much. I just about walked out of one in MD and refused to leave a tip, the service was so bad.

As an aside, I was walking to the station one summer day from the police parking lot when a woman approached me and complained that I should not be wearing a gun. She informed me that she was offended by the very sight of a firearm. I was in plainclothes (dress shirt, tie, etc,) with my badge in plain view. She was in her forties, very nicely dressed and, I believe, apparently sober.

I told her she should be more concerned about the ones who hid their guns until they were right behind her at night.

Could be that Denny’s manager was screwing a cop who dumped her for a waitress. IMHO the waitresses could be young and hawt but the managers were generally older and dawgs.

I would be suspicious of the complainer. Why would someone want the restaurant to be defenseless? The manager should have told the cops that there was a suspicious person, possibly a massacre plotter, and had her frisked and cavity-searched. You can’t be too careful these days.

Perhaps you’re correct. No Denny’s near me. I mostly stopped at Denny’s through the mid west; Oh, Ind, Ill, etc on motorcycle trips out to Wyo and back.

So many of you are missing the whole “what’s wrong with this picture” thing. These cops were treated, not like gods, not like our lords and masters…but like any other citizen in Illinois would have been.

    Oh, the horror.

    Oh, the humanity.

    (Oh, the sarcasm.)

The Magic Pixie Dust of Government impresses me not at all. If the average American citizen can’t carry in a certain place, than neither can the cops, and it doesn’t help their case when the chief gets all butthurt and throws a tantrum about it.

I wouldn’t move a muscle for a faux offended idiot. NO is an answer they need to hear each and every time they ask us to concede to their selfish demands.
“I’m offended” is a Liberal Game intended to control those of us that refuse to group think. It won’t work if we don’t participate.
