Hospital fires 8 workers who refused flu shot
GOSHEN, Ind. -
A northern Indiana hospital has fired eight employees who refused to get flu shots the hospital says are needed to protect patients from the potentially deadly illness.
IU Health Goshen Hospital officials told its staff in September that flu shots would no longer be optional for staff, affiliated physicians, volunteers and vendors.
Hospital spokeswoman Melanie McDonald tells The Elkhart Truth (http://bit.ly/ZQnzxP ) the new requirements came as a recommendation from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Medical Association and other major health agencies.
McDonald says the flu has the highest death rate of any vaccine-preventable disease. She says the hospital would be irresponsible to ignore the fact that patients with compromised immune systems are at a greater risk for illness and death from the flu.

The hospital I work at made the flu shots mandatory this year too.
The only reason I wasn’t fired for refusing to get poked with a needle is because they had the throat spray available.
These people need to sue.

also, why is this all of a sudden an issue??
We’ve been treating patient since the beginning of time, and do they have any records of patient deaths that were caused by “catching the flu from a nurse or other hospital worker”????
Bullshit…It’s all about control.

Can’t say I blame them, but hospital workers should probably be an exception.
Personally, the flu shot was a bad choice for me this year.
Didn’t get the flu or flu shot for eight years, until I got a shot this year.
Four days after receiving a flu shot I was extremely sick for 2 weeks, out of work for a full week and fatigued with sinusitis and bronchitis for 2 more weeks -had to go to the doctor for prescriptions. I’m still coughing.
Yes, this was a bad year and I possibly had the virus already, but I still believe the flu shot just prompted the virus I already had. The virus probably would have remained dormant if I hadn’t gotten a flu shot.

I only did the flu shot once. That winter was the sickest time of my life (next to mono in 1985). It has been at least five years since and I haven’t had the flu or a bad cold since.

No way I’d get that mercury filled Flu Shot. Who knows what else is in that stuff ? If I do get the Flu, I’ll tough it out for a couple days. Better than being poisoned forever.

Hey if they work for you, have at em.
I had to stop taking flu shots.
I did it for 7 or 8 years and got the flu several times per year. I almost had to go to the ER a few times. It’s just not worth it to me. A year after I stopped getting them, I’ve barely caught a cold or two.
What if some of those people were allergic to the ingredients? Are they STILL fired?

Wait, I meant to say;
SINCE the year after I stopped getting them, I’ve barely caught a cold or two.

I’ve had just one flu shot in my life time back in the early 90s because my boss paid for them and insisted we all get them. Never again. They are useless.

I have yet to yield any part of my person to a flu shot. I’m practicing for being resolute about saying NO WAY to the mark of the devil.

Over the next 5 to ten years I wonder which will cause the death of the most patients. Obamacare or flu caught from hospital staff?

The hospital is wrong, and violating their employee’s rights. By their own definition, anything that breaks the skin or is internal can be considered an invasive procedure… Even a shot. Plus, they are requiring their employees to have a foreign body/germ forcefully and invasively injected into their bodies.
I hope they sue the bejeezus out of that hospital. I actually had a shit storm when, employed in a hospital I refused a TB injection test. I don’t have a spleen, and don’t feel comfortable having tuberculin injected into my body. I told them they could take an x-ray of my lungs.
Everyone in ‘legal’ and HR freaked out. It’s MANDATORY. Blah, blah.
I won, but they of course gave me hell afterwards.
The only thing they care about is staffing. They don’t want employees calling off.
They could care less about patient infection. If they did, they would worry more about MRSA and C-Diff contaminations.

I forgot to say, b/c this vaccine could be considered invasive, requiring employees to have it is hypocritical, as the hospital’s own ‘bill of patient’s rights’ says that a patient can refuse any procedure with informed consent.

Good for you, Brooke.
I know people who cannot tolerate the injection so they have to go with x-rays.
Sorry about your spleen.

When they can tell the people what all they are already infected with—80% of the pop.s have spirochetal disease, 90% have EBV and other herpes similars, 1/3 of the world’s pop.s have a “latent” form of TB causeing ALL SYNDROMES/PSYCH Disease/CANCERS and stop infecting them with more infectious antigens that fold into those prion protein infections then you the tax payers will not be forced to take care of the billions suffering needlessly in their refusals to treat the truth with life giving antibiotics and their own stem cells to then cure after killing all the infections in immune systems vaccines have destroying in using spirochetal contaminated cells lines for over 30yrs. Say Thanks Criminals for killing us with your kind of kindness and letting US pay for them too. PROVEN.
