    Stormin’ Norman was a bigger than life military hero.
    Central Casting couldn’t have come up with anybody better to command Desert Storm.

    When I heard the anchorette on Fox speaking in hushed tones, I was really afraid that it was that other guy.

    Never met Schwarzkopf but when GWHB was Vice President he visited the hospital where I was working in Riyadh. I knew he’d be there so made up a little 8½x11 sign that said BUSH ’88 and held it over the sea of ghuttra-swathed heads when he entered the room. He saw it, had his guys part the sea so to speak, came over, shook my hand and said thank you. My two Scottish buddies beside me were, as they say, gobsmacked.

    My friend dated the man who was Schwarzkopf’s speechwriter during the Gulf War. He was present when the general was told that an Iraqi missile hit a barrack in Dhahran, killing 28 American Army Reservists. He says Schwarzkopf wept like a greiving father. His love for his troops was unquestionable.

    I was in the USAF stationed at Ft. Stewart 1983 – 1985 when Gen. Schwarzcopf was Post Commander there. We got to greet and salute him on FTX at Ft. Irwin, CA (NTC). The entire 24th Mech Inf Div deployed to NTC and some miscommunications had all units bring the woodland instead of desert cammo nets for concealing vehicles. The General arrived in his helo, circled the Divisions positions and called his subordinate officers to a meeting. Word was that he chewed their asses about the allowing the wrong cammo nets to be brought into the field and finished the session by sayin that if they wanted to learn how to put up cammo nets, look up towards the dry wash at those Air Force boys because they know how it’s done. Not a kind reference for the Army officers to be told that the AF can do better than the Army.

    Fur, class act showing a younger picture of an American hero. I’ve always gotten so pissed when someone of notoriety dies and the media shows a picture of him when he was near death. I always think, why not remember them when they were in there prime. It’s almost seems deliberate and insulting. That dude was hell on wheels.

    MNP. I gotcha now. You know I always said it took one term of ghb and two terms of Clinton to destroy Reaganomics. Non of he Bushs were all that smart in my opinion. But this guy was a hero. Part of the greatest generation. I’ll give him respect for that. It was Clinton that killed our livelyhood, not this guy. Last Clinton did leaving office was most favored trading partner with China. Clinton sold us out to help his buddy Sam Walton. He’s the dude.

    Pearl Clutcher. I can’t disagree. I keep replaying that video of him in my mind of him climbing off his shot down aircraft. That generation is second to none and we should all try and live up to them. One more thing MNP and I are so far away from any type of union it would make your head spin.
