Panera Opens a “Pay What You Can” Restaurant

Home - by - December 27, 2012 - 04:52 America/New_York - 22 Comments

What can I pay? Nothing, now that I can re-prioritize my money and get me a sweet Obamaphone.

When Radiohead offered their album online for a pay-what-you-want download, I gave them ZERO. That’s what I wanted to pay.

My only question for Panera is, can I bring my own “sustainable” shopping bag and fill it to the brim? Because I will.

I can foresee a very pissed off bunch of servers expecting a tip….

Sure, sure, just a minute, lemme figure this out, let’s see, zero percent of zero is…..ZERO!

Enjoy my largess, libitard waiters and make sure to call mommy-obammy and complain on your free obammaphone about how you are now less equal than others.

Is that called the “nonprofit motive?”

Oh, and YES, I really want to enjoy my lunch siting next to a group of homeless bums who haven’t washed in months and are enjoying the liberals’ largesse.

And, while spy’s point is a good one, if Iwere tempted to go in there, I’d give the whole price of the meal to the waitress as a tip, maybe tossing a dime in the [illistrated] po’ box.

I sure the smelly bums will add a little something to your meal.

It won’t be long before “shame monitors” will be stationed at the counter who will be profiling the customers to make sure that they are paying their fair share for the meal.

If I ate there and had a bad meal that I never intended to pay for, I would demand they compensate me for my time.

There’s been one of these in my neighborhood for a couple of years. I don’t really care, if the owner wants to run it that way that’s his choice. The only thing that annoys me is the guy who stands by the front door and grills you about whether you understand how the “pay what you can” thing works.

Meh. It’s your money, throw it away however you want.

And I mean both the owner and the overpaying customers.

Opposite City Hall, poor location as government workers expect every thing should be on the arm.

What a coincidence! I also paid nothing for Radiohead’s album…

    Of course, I didn’t download it… mainly because I hate Radiohead’s music…

I would prefer to eat three boxes of ExLax and spend a week on the crapper with crippling pain than listen to their music.

Panetta will soon establish a minimum charge.
I’m assuming Panera pays a minimum wage.

    I predict…

credit card users: 100% of meal price

    cash users: 75%

welfare cards: 0%, after Panera gets a govt subsidy for 125%.

Why not go all out and make the slot in the donation box large enough for a hand? Someone might need that money more than the restaurant.

If they’re that stupid about the business end of the operation, can you assume the food is safe? Buhbye, Panera.

A study in human nature, huh? I dare say that your typical homeless/needy individual doesn’t normally frequent Paneras. I guess this is up-scale charity – for the exec who lost his job in the recession and wants to maintain his lifestyle.

Why doesn’t Panera just continue to operate full-pay restaurants and donate a portion of their revenues or product to established charities? What’s that? It’s a PR stunt? You don’t say.

Panera greeter’s welcome, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”

Now if they have figured a way to make even more from liberal shitheads more power to them.

Frankly, I don’t think it ill last.

You know, the main difference between these fools and the Radiohead thing is that it doesn’t cost Radiohead anything to give you an extra copy for no significant marginal cost to them (once they make up the cost of production) while the restaurant will lose money for every bastard who walks in and pays less than production/labour costs for their meal. I actually think Radiohead’s kinda clever for giving their music away like that; it makes them more money than a free promotional album but still draws them attention and fans who like free/cheap stuff. Pity their music sucks, though… On the other hand I hope Panera gets a good hard loss and learns the error of their hopeychangey ways.
