Now Here’s a Joyous Story For Christmas!

Doc set me this story and challenged me, as a New Yorker, and asked me if I knew anything about the monument in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park.
Nope. I did not know this.

    I was born and grew up right around the corner.(Dekalb ave) I remember playing there as a kid and I never knew the story.

    The war didn’t start in ’76 as he said…that was the signing of the Declaration.
    The war started officially at Lexington/Concord April 1975
    The Brits were barbarians

    Have not heard this part of our history before. Certainly adds another dimension to the importance of why the American colonies needed to throw off the chains of the imperial and suffocating power of the British hold over us.

    BTW, in Great Bitain these old ships turned prisons were called ‘The Hulks’. It is from these ship/prisons where most of the convicts who were sent to the new colony of Australia came from.

    I rode on Flatbush Avenue for years only a few blocks from Fort Greene Park. I never knew this story. I never visited the Park. What a shame.
