Condoms for free at 22 city schools

The district is installing dispensers over winter break at high schools with the highest rates of STDs.

Condom dispensers are going into 22 city high schools. The protection is free to students, except those whose parents signed opt-out forms.

Coming over the holiday break to about a third of Philadelphia high schools: clear plastic dispensers chock-full of free condoms.

The dispensers will be placed in the 22 high schools whose students had the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases, and condoms will be available to any student – so long as their parents did not sign a form opting them out of the program.

It’s a pilot designed to address “an epidemic of sexually transmitted disease in adolescents in Philadelphia,” said Donald F. Schwarz, the deputy mayor for health and opportunity. Since April 2011, the city has given away about four million condoms, and now, STD rates are falling.

But, Schwarz pointed out, 25 percent of new HIV infections in Philadelphia are teens, and that’s a major worry.

Some city high schools – the dozen that have “health resource centers” – already dispense free condoms. And the Health Department also provides them at city high schools when they go in to test teens for STDs, as they do every year voluntarily with a parent’s consent.

The pilot is the next logical step, Schwarz said.

“I support the policy strongly,” said Mayor Nutter. “This is a serious public health matter.”

STD’s will skyrocket because teens will take this as a green light to have more sex. Progs will never get it.

@grayscape yep, it’s a tacit endorsement of teen sex. However it is now, and I imagine it’s pretty bad considering the STDs, it’s going to turn into a complete bang-o-rama. Even higher STDs, more teen pregnancies and abortions, but they were doin’ it fer the chirren!! Good intentions are all that matter to these dopes. Hey, Stalin just wanted to help the poor after all.

The dispensers will be placed in the 22 high schools whose students had the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases…

Condoms are only about 98% successful in stopping STDs. However, they are over 99% successful in stopping pregnancies. So why are we told that condoms should be used to stop the spread of STDs, but it’s necessary to kill innocent, unborn, defenseless babies instead of stopping the pregnancies with condoms?

I know, we’re talking about libtards. Math class is tough!

…and condoms will be available to any student – so long as their parents did not sign a form opting them out of the program.

With dispensers in place around the school, how would the parents know? And whats to stop one student from giving his to another student?

Yeah, I know…Math class is tough!

And, the dispenser looks like home plate! There’s a safe at home joke in there somewhere, but I can’t find it.

This reminds me of when I was in school in the 1950′s.
Back then the dispenser was made of wood.

How do they keep the kids from taken these and selling them.
    100% profit.

Students giving it to each other is the original problem. :D

OK, sorry. I know I’m perpetually five years old.

All kidding aside, I don’t know if this will help or not. If the kids aren’t resourceful enough to get them now, I doubt if they will care enough to use them. Condoms are 98% effective when used, abstinence is 100% effective.

How much you want to bet the rate of STDs doesn’t go down, but the rate of condoms taken and used for purposes other than sex goes through the ceiling?
