It is time for Wayne LaPierre to retire to some great tree stand far removed from a television camera, microphone or interviewer. He is no more than a doddering relic locked in 30 year old arguments. Wholly unprepared and singularly unlikeable, if the NRA would like to lose the current national debate they could do no better than continuing with LaPierre as their face to the public. He is the Pat Robertson of the 2nd Amendment and, quite frankly, the 2nd Amendment deserves a lot better than Wayne LaPierre.
I say this following his numerous misfires on Meet The Press. A dreadful interview. Into the liberal lion’s den he went, with literal crap in the corner of his mouth while David Gregory studiously avoided mentioning it to him for the entirety of the prosecution decidedly hostile cross-examination.

When the question is presented…”why does anybody need an assault weapon?”…the response should be…”to beat back the onslaught of the American Negroid when they go into full blown riot, rape, burn, and pillage mode”…not to sit their and fumble around looking for a PC answer. When they say that is “racist”…you tell them in 1968 Mayor Richard J. Daley issued a shoot to kill order against the American Negroid because they were totally out of control, as they tend to get from time to time….and letting them burn down an entire city will not be permitted.

Protecting each school with an armed guard is obviously impractible and would be a tactical nightmare. Unless he is invisible, he would be the first target.
And suppose complete safety could be guaranteed at every school. There are many other soft targets.
So. Armed guards is not the answer.
Disarming everyone is not the answer either.
We must concentrate on protecting our right to keep and bear arms in the legislative arena.
The NRA is the most effective organization that fights these battles. If we lose there, we may be fighting in the streets.

I watched the whole interview and thought that LaPierre did an excellent job of deflecting every bullet Gregory fired at him and Gregory’s clip contained a lot more than thirty rounds.

I disgaree with the writer in that, I think it’s important to say over and over again some pithy aphorisms.
When LaPierre says, “You stop a bad guy with a gun with a good guy with a gun,” that is very effective.
This is what people will repeat in mixed company.
We can’t expect our surrogates to be giving lengthy dissertations on the 2nd amendment at parties in order to sway the hearts and minds of low-information voters.

I heard most of La Pierre’s presser and being a life member of the NRA, I was satisfied. He said the things that mush mouthed, linguini spined political types wouldn’t dare – too hard hitting for the “low information voter.” And he made the point that 20,000 gun laws DO NOT make anyone safer, except for the bad guys.
Is he a dry ball, dull, dinosaur? Probably, but until we elect Sarah Palin to take his place, he’s our guy.

Having one uniformed or otherwise identifiable security guard on duty only guarantees that he will be the first one shot. David Gregory insinuates that taking away all guns will lead to zero school murders. LaPierre should have had some statistical historic retort, whether national or ‘European’.
