And Now For the Post That Signals We Have Hit Our Nadir as a Species
There is a flash game online called Kindergarten Killer.
A gunman is on the loose in a school after killing the principal. The goal of the game (as stated by the makers) is to kill as many kids as possible. There is a problem, however. The kids are armed and firing back.
This sounds like I’m making it all up and it’s time for BigFurHat to get into a warm fuzzy robe and eat jello and bananas in the day room overlooking the babbling brook.
I only link as proof. Here it is. Its been played 48,000 times!!

Yes, but the NRA has blood on its hands. I have it on good authority. The unimpeachable Code Pink.
You know, I can’t help but wonder how much worse the world was back in the time of Noah that God felt it necessary to flood the whole stinking place.

So if we did hit ou nadir, then it’s all uphill to our zenith from now on? Maybe we did hit our zenith some decades ago, and we are going down to our nadir. But the worst is still ahead… We’ve seen nothing yet.

Dagny,
Nadirs are made to be broken, apparently.
But, yes, we hit our Zenith a long, long time ago.

My answer won’t pass the spam filter, so I’ll post in sepate section:
“But, yes, we hit our Zenith a long, long time ago.”
Maybe the ‘we’ ain’t as clear as you think.
As you know, Nietzsche created a character, the ‘Madman’, who ran around his village shouting ‘God is dead’:

Recently, Michel Foucault also noted the Death of Man — ‘man’ being understood here from the perspective of human sciences, namely: biology, linguistics and political economy.
Cybernetics and molecular biology (DNA) destroys the ‘human’ paradigm of the organism. Now silicium and microships and wifi are incorporating our own biological organism: we are becoming cyborgs, cybernetic organisms.
Language is being completely transformed by digital codes (Os and 1s), deactivating a mechanism that was analoguous in nature since Babel, at least (lol).
And political economy, well, you know what is happening, with the death of capitalism.

My point is this: maybe Mankind is dying, like God did. And we are now witnessing the context in which a new form of life will arise, and its zenith could very well galaxies away from here and now; we don’t know.

All this talk of Nadirs and Zeniths is silly. We are players in this drama and cannot perceive the whole.
Each generation of humanity thinks of itself as the highest form of the species – the “Crown of Creation” alluded to in the old Jefferson Airplane song. But, despite all of the Techno-Crap, we’re still just a hair above the apes, stumbling along our paths, into an unknown, and unknowable future.
Plan for the worst, pray for the best – and along comes some “drug-addled sodomite imbecile” who gets himself elected (by fraud) and fucks everything up.

@Kairn
What defines Man? Typically it was: biology (man defined by its organism: hands intead of claws, etc), linguistics (animals don’t speak; man does) and political economy (man as a trading animal, accumulating wealth and so on and so forth; animals don’t trade nor accumulate wealth).
But now all those humanistic forces are upset by other forces that are destroying this very paradigm of Man. The biology of the organism is deactivated by the discovery and the use of DNA; linguistics is nullified by ma.chi.nic, binary, coding languages (and now ma.chi.nes are reproducting themselves and learning by themselves, and giving the apparence of autonomy and animation); and political economy is deactivated by a rampant, state-control socialism.
Those new, non-human forces seem to detroy Man in a manner not unlike those previous forces that destroyed God (God understood in the sense of a form of life, as in the episode of the Madman quoted above; God as part of society, politics and so on). God has been cast away (see the Ten Commandments being thrown away; prayers ending in schools, etc), and so is the form of Man. Yet I don’t think we are becoming pure savages, animals. Other forces are in play, and those forces are not animal nor human nor godly, namely: cybernetics, DNA biology, artifical uterus, spacecrafts, binary languages, silicium (instead of the carbon of the organism), etc.

You are just scape-goating here. While there are indeed socialist, nefarious, satanic people and their useful idiots, there are also non-human forces at work that are very hostile to Man as we have known it since centuries.

All the psychotropic drugs could also be seen as hostile, non-human forces. More ma.chi.nic than human. They basically deactivate a lot of the human affective life.

Continue to surround yourselves with like-minded people, and blatantly uphold our traditional values and principles. If we go down, we’ll go down with integrity.

Of course Man has been defined as the image of God as well. But that does not apply in a political system where God Himself has been banned.

Xavier, I have three of them running around here. A couple are allowed inside. But I just got a new Lab pup. The cats are freaked and conspiring against the mutt. It’s been escalating over the last couple days. So I feel obligated to side with the out numbered.

Not ‘scape-goating’ in the least. I know that evil walks the Earth. Obama and socialism are simply two of the tools used by Mephistopheles – hence their insidiousness.
We (humanity) have turned our backs on God and will surely pay the price. But the ‘remnants’ will remain. When God’s anger subsides, He will allow humanity to face the light – until humanity fucks up again.

It’s not only because of idiot teachers that kids can’t read anymore. It’s because books themselves are being marginal, peripheric.
Our culture is becoming post-literral. Books and newspapers are losing their impacts. It’s the realm of TV now, and it’s fusing with the Internet. Those components are in the process of incorporating our physical organism, with microships.
Now we sill hold our “smart” phones and ipads in our hands, but it will become more and more incorporated into our organisms — not only into our rooms and vehicles, but inside our very own organism: retina, planted microships, earplugs, maybe even brain implants, bio-connected to our electrical nervous system.
That’s an example of the death of Man and rise of another form of life.
Dagny
December 22nd, 2012
@Tim How do you define “humanity”?
Serious question.

December 22nd, 2012
@Dagny–
“Of course Man has been defined as the image of God as well. But that does not apply in a political system where God Himself has been banned.”
It always applies, regardless of whether God has been banned. People cannot escape their responsibilities just by pretending that God does not exist.
Dagny
December 22nd, 2012
I undestand, Mary. And I’m right there with you.
However, on a political, system level, God has been effectively cast away.
Man has took His place.
Now Man is being destroyed by forces such as islam, socialism (which are evil, purely destructive forces) but by other forces as well, such as biocybernetics, binary codes, etc, and those forces are not ontologically evil; they are non-human however.
My point is that in a context where God has been banished, and Man is dying, then we should consider the possibilty of another Form of Life rising, not Godly, not human, and not animal neither. Some form of monstrous form that ain’t necessarily evil however.

Would you consider a humanoid creature (able to talk, trade and looking like a human) born out of an artificial uterus (produced by a machine rather than born out of a mother) part of humanity for instance?

That’s a harsh and honest answer, Mary. I’m not sure I agree; but I do certainly understand your position.
That question I asked was basically the same question Stanley Kubrick asked in his movie A.I. (he died before finishing it, and Spielberg ruined it).
