Why don’t you include the transcript of Wayne LaPierre’s speech from yesterday. That should stir up some discussion…

Here is something for the sticky. Van Jones sends me an e-mail about “ArtStrike”. ArtStrike is all about demonizing the wealthy (successful) with art work. So I go to the link….If you don’t want to believe that liberalism is a mental dis-order, don’t go look at the “art work” or videos.

Is is sad and disgusting that obama has so divided this country.

    I render this for discussion:
    http://www.garynorth.com/public/10459.cfm

“Whenever a political movement seeks to disarm the citizen, it is necessarily simultaneously seeking to expand the power of the federal government, and also the power of armed criminals, including gangs. By disarming citizens, the state asserts an ultimate sovereignty over them, and yet it is incapable of carrying out this assertion of sovereignty in local affairs.”

Jethro, as per your suggested topic of discussion: we all know this already. I suggest we go further and think more TACTILLY.

What about Matt Bracken’s prediction that the Obama Admin will ban not the guns themselves but HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES:

The ex-SEAL thinks that Obama will call for Congress to ban every gun magazine with more than 10 rounds, branding “massacre” magazines or something.

He predicts Congress will pass laws forbidding shops to sell those magazines, and factories to manufacture them.

They won’t ban AR-15 but they’ll castrate them by getting rid of their magazines.

When I submitted this idea here, our own BAD BRAD objected:

Dagny. Lot a wheel guns out there. I personally own more wheel guns the autos by a big margin. There are also a huge amount more hunting rifles out there that do not require magazines opposed to those that do, like the AR platforms. Eliminating magazine would be a fart in a windstorm. Also, magazines are not that hard to manufacture. Any sheet metal shop or machine shop could black market the hell out of those things. Totally illogical idea.

So I submitted that objection to Bracken, and here is his response:

Magazines are the weak point, in terms of putting semi-auto pistols and rifles out of action.

Ban mags over 10 rounds, make that a felony, and voila, most semis will be useless until factories gear up to make ten rounders that cannot possibly be modified to accept more than that number.

Manufacturers won’t dare to make anything else, and “stamped sheet metal mags” are a lot harder to make than you might imagine. Can you make them? Reliable ones? If you have a friend who could make them, would he be willing to be sent to prison for making them for you? I doubt it.

Perhaps thousands or millions of gun owners will hide their full-capacity Glock or AR mags, and in the meantime, buy new ten rounders. But the full-cap mags will need to be very well hidden, since they will be the same as hiding heroin, meth, C-4 etc, in terms of prison time if you are caught.

It makes a lot to me, but then I don’t know nothing about guns. IF this holds water, what can we do then to resist?

I did watch a good portion of the interview. I question some of his evidence that the soldiers were not firing on each other at Gettysburg. Finding a bunch of loaded guns is flimsy evidence, considering the piles of dead bodies you can see in the pictures in the museum, and all the holes in the buildings of the town.
I concede there were probably those who were terrified and never fired a shot. But somehow using that as evidence only 5-10% actually did all that killing doesn’t add up, especially at the rate they could fire those muzzle loaders.
If his theory that violent video games are having the same effect on our youth as the desensitizing techniques used by the military has any merit, we had better all learn to kill.
I have never killed a human, but I believe (as a hunter) I am probably in a much better position than most to be able to defend myself with a firearm, or butter knife.

Considering how pathetic our government success rate in the war on drugs is, I bet most people who would hide their firearms have little to worry about.
Ann Barnhardt linked to an article about a societal breakdown scenario a few months back. That seems like what will more likely happen than the government successfully taking the guns away from 100 million people.

    @Jethro

Yeah, the guy who wrote that article on the “societal breakdown scenario a few months back” was in fact Matt Bracken, the same guy who’s now advancing the hypothesis of a coming ban on magazines.

Bracken, write of anticipation scenarios and former Navy SEAL, is something like the feminine version of Ann, lol.

Very fair point. I have to admit giving the man credit even though I’m almost blind as to his methodology. I don’t know indeed how he did collect the data that enabled him to reach that conclusion; I kinda trusted him blindly given his professorship position at West Point and, more importantly, the coherence and consistence of his discourse in other regards.

But you are right. It would be good to learn more about the method he used to collect those data and reached that surprising conclusion.

@Bad Brad – below is a link to a higher quality video of “Suzanna Gratia Hupp explains meaning of 2nd Amendment!”

Wherein she explains the meaning of the 2nd Amendment. That it’s not about hunting, that her anger is not toward the killer of her parents, but rather toward the politicians / legislators who pass bad laws that prevent people people from defending themselves. That the primary purpose of the 2nd A is to defend ourselves from them, the elected office holders.

The only thing that distracts is having to look at the smug look on Chuck Schumer’s face during her testimony. On the end are parts of the Penn and Teller video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=M1u0Byq5Qis

A second related video is “Dr Suzanna Hupp on Virginia Tech” from Foxnews- wherein the question discussed is – If concealed weapons where legalized. Would we be safer?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ggg0LwhrH0

Her point is that Gun Free Zones ( created by politicians ) – shorten the list of places mass killers choose to do their evil deeds. They don’t choose for example; NRA conventions, gun shows. They choose schools.
