Are they having fun or what? I love the way they “steer” with one paw. Great!

When I was a kid there was a large hill behind my house that we would sled down. It was at least a 1/4 mile sled run – FUN!
We had a german shepherd that looked like Rin-tin-tin. His name was Rommel (how appropriate…). He loved to ride on the sled. I trained him to ride with me (both sitting in front, and on my back) and to pull the sled back up the hill.
Man, I miss my childhood….

@Jethro — We met a massive German shepherd while staying at a fish camp in eastern British Columbia many years ago also named Rommel. Is that a common name for GS’s? Beautiful animal. My childhood GS was named Sugarfoot.
Wish I could get back up those hills as easily as those dogs!

My childhood German Shepherd was named Fraulein. She was the sweetest, loving-est dog we ever had. Her only dangerous attribute was to lick your face off.

@Claudia — I remember my mom had to shut our GS in when we had birthday parties. He would chase our friends down when we played tag because he thought we were in danger. He was trained for the police but rejected because of he was gun shy. When we walked on our rural roads (no sidewalks) he would always walk on the outside of us and herd us far off the road. So loyal.
