Thieves Steal $5,000 In Gifts Meant For DEPLOYED TROOPS
As Scott Raab and the other volunteers at Move America Forward, based in Sacramento, loaded boxes of non-perishables with a Christmas twist en route to troops in Afghanistan Monday morning, they realized that the lock to the storage unit containing the boxes had been chopped open overnight and 25 boxes – a $5,000 value – had been stolen.
The organization had been collecting items for months, and the packages included soaps and deodorants, candy and dried meats, coffee and tea, and a festive touch of stockings and holiday cards hand-written by thankful community members.
