Ivan And The Doorstop

My kitty, Ivan, hates to be left out of the action. When I’m in my den working on my computer, he signals that he wants to come in and crawl all over me and my keyboard.

Crazy boy.

    Poor Ivan. I would never close the door on my kitteh, Erica – mainly because she would, no doubt, take a battering ram to the door.

    Right now she’s having fun outside plowing through 10″ of snow…

    I’ve given up trying to keep the cats out. They would just howl the place down.

    The big one has messed me up more than once, with his ‘keyboard shortcuts’. And the other day I thought the computer was possessed when it started doing REALLY weird things.
    I finally figured out that Top Cat was screwing with the cordless track pad. I rarely use it, so it’s out of sight, behind the computer.

    I swear I heard him telling the other cat all about it, and they had a good laugh.

    Yeah, I had to start shutting the cats out of the den when I worked from home for two years in the early 00s. I could never type doing web design and coding so it had to be perfect.

    Both cats HAVE to be on me – I have to hold Ivan with my right arm and Zoe with my left.

    I seldom shut them out now, but they get the boot when they want to play wrassle while still in my arms!

    My kitties learn something and then train the others. In our previous house, we had 4″ vertical blinds on our bedroom window. One cat, Corkscrew (don’t ask!), learned that if she batted one side of the blinds, it would ripple to the other side causing enough noise to wake me at 4:30 AM to let her out. Pretty soon her sister Hazel started doing it too.

    In this house, no vertical blinds. Yes! I get to sleep! No such luck. Hazel figured out that if she opens the low cabinets with her paw about 2-3 inches and lets go, it makes enough noise to wake me up at 4:30 AM. We got another cat and now he does the cabinet wake-up thing too. He also does it when he’s hungry.

    I think that painting of the dogs playing poker was taken from a hidden security camera photo. I think there is a pet conspiracy going on and that most home “accidents” are with people that figure it out. It’s a good thing they can’t read…

    That’s adorable. My husband spoils our cat by turning on a heating pad that he keeps near the bed. Of course if the cat thinks that he might want to use it, she will run over anything and anyone to beat him to it.

    Very cute kitty. They never give up either. If our cats encounter a closed door they sit and meow in front of it. And they will never stop. Not until they get exactly what they want.

    Claudia, I saw Ivan wink at you. That’s how I share a special moment with my kittehs. I close my eyes at them and they close their eyes back at me. My husband thinks I’m nuts.

    I think I also detected Ivan looking a little disgusted at your incomprehension of his very civil sign that you open the door. “Sheesh”, he said to himself, “How many times do we have to go over this?”

    Our dear ol’ Haggis did that at our old house when he thought we had slept in too late. The new place only has one of those wiggly doorstops and it’s downstairs. He tried it a few times but decided we couldn’t hear it. So, he just stood on us-with his “needle feet.” He always knew where the pressure points were to get our attention.

    @Poonces- #2 is a fiend for clothes fresh out of the dryer. He burrows into the pile and purrs loudly. After he gets settled, you can usually only see one eye peering out, or maybe a paw, or the tip of his tail.
    It slows the folding process considerably.

    Philo*, my 5-year-old tabby, who has NEVER been an outdoor cat, has all of a sudden developed an obsession with the outdoors. He will paw at the front door and cry piteously, and if we’re not careful, he will run outdoor and we have to chase him down.
