Xavier, I am familiar with cut shells. Pretty old school. If your shooting a side by side or an over under you could probably get away with them. I wouldn’t try them in a pump or an auto loader. Personally I don’t like swinging anything with a stock on it for home defense. But I’ve been shooting hand guns for a long time. MNP is pretty sharp on home defense weapons, Maybe he will chime in. Shit my go to weapon would be a Single Action Army in 45.

Brad, cut slugs are fine for pumps and auto-shutguns, alot of the remington deer slugs are now split or cut and not just hollowpoints anymore.

As long as the cuts aren’t more then a 1/4 of the way down they’ll stay intact……not that I’d know.

I’ve had some old timers trying to convince me to try cut shells. My worry was that it raises the muzzle pressures and most of my shotguns have some age. But if it’s illegal, other concerns are moot.

MNP, I’ve never heard of such a thing as a cut shell being such a wild violation in Texas.

If you could point out where it says that I would be most thankful. I can’t find it.

Since a cut shell is only turning a shot shell into a slug I’m curious what makes it so bad somewhere.

It seems to me the most egregious aspect of a cut shell is the damage it does to the inside of your barrel.

I’m certain that if I kill someone here in Dallas because I had to in order to stay alive – it matters not what tool I implement. From squashing a shooter with my car to drowning him in my pool to using a baseball bat to shooting him with anything from .22 to a 12 ga slug to a .308 rfle at 5 feet or even insulting him to the point he commits suicide?

I’m positive I would not be thrown away forever for using a cut shell. What if making it a cut shell is what it took? You know, like needing to penetrate more than birdshot would do?

But if you can show me where it says that I’ll change my mind.
