I say real. I remember the footage of the harpy eagle grabing a sloth out of the tree and flying with it. The sloth was about the size of the kid in the video.

Real. I watched an eagle grab a dog once, bigger than that baby, fortunately, he dropped the dog. Probably one of the reasons why they were once hunted almost into extinction.

On the one hand, the baby should be bawling like a banshee after being grabbed by razor sharp talons and then dropped four feet to the ground

On the other hand, how could you fake something like this? How often do eagles snatch babies? If you were faking this, you’d have to know in advance that there was an eagle hanging around the park who was guaranteed to snatch your fake baby.

Has to be real. Like Lennie said, how could they know that the eagle would swoop down and grab the fake babie? Unless, that is, they have been staked out at this spot like a National Geographic photographer waiting for this moment.

Eagles and most other birds of prey will go for anything they think is food. The kid is just about the right size. Remember, the term eagle-eye is not used for nothing. They will size up any animal and determine if it’s a meal. The kid was sitting on his own, away from the bigger animals around it, and ripe for the plucking.

The reason the eagle dropped the child was because it was heavier than estimated. The eagle can tell the size but not the weight. They’re used to things like small mammals and the weight associated with them. Besides, eagles cannot lift that much weight anyway. Maybe the weight of a fish or two, or something the size of a rabbit. After that, it’s too much.

However, those razor-sharp talons would have punctured that kids pink baby skin like a blowtorch going through butter. His lack of blood-curdling scream at the pain tells me that the eagle probably didn’t have a good grip and most likely just punctured the heavy winter jacket.

Lucky kid. There was little danger of him being carried away due to his weight. But those talons could have done major damage had the eagle grabbed him cleanly around the neck and collar area.

That was a distant relative of my National Recovery Act blue eagle. He was just trying to ease the burden of the parents having a child.

You are spot on about the eagle. That was a lucky baby to have been dropped so early on and at a low height.

The eagle would not have been able to gain too much more lift with the weight of the baby, but with a little more height and distance from the adult human, it would have dropped the baby from a height that probably would have killed it. Then it would have fed. Quite gruesome, really. But nature ones what nature does. Animals are always hungry.

I have no doubt this is real.
The kid is small and vulnerable, and the eagle figured why not check it out. Like Stranded said, he wouldn’t know how heavy it was until he grabbed it.
Plus, the reaction of the mother(?) who was previously preoccupied looked genuine.

But the eagle wasn’t doing the breaststroke…that was the “butterfly”. How he knew how to do that so perfectly, only God knows.

Now see if we had more taxpayer funded eagle killing mindmills around all of our parks this would’ve never happened.

This is just more proof for the left on why we need more windmlls, they produce electricity and save our kids from eagles.
