Cacablanca Piano Sold at Auction for $600k
(Spelling intentional)
Crap piano from a crap movie sells for way too much money. (Yes, I am muckraking. I’ve long maintained that Casablanca is nothing more than a Marx Brothers production without the laughs.)

You’d think that when they spent all that money colorizing his mediocre movie they’d get the colors right.

(1) Colorizing old B & W movies is a desecration
(2) The only movie musical instrument worth even close to that sum is one of Harpo Marx/s harps
(3) I’ve never seen Casablanca. So sue me.

I’ve fallen asleep on that movie.
Also on The African Queen. (The movie, not 0bama)

IMHO, Ingrid Bergman was one of the most overrated actresses in the biz.
And the way she chewed the scenery in that movie just made it that much worse.

I never understood what all the fuss was about, so thanks for confirming my doubts about that movie.
Bogie was great in the Treasure of Sierra Madre.

I like Bogie.
Bergman? Pffft.
Never saw the fuss.

I’ve seen Casablanca, yet can’t remember much about it. There’s a reason for that. It was very forgettable.
I like Bogart. Liked Key Largo, The Maltese Falcon and a few others.
Bergman is like wallpaper. She lights up the screen when she exits a scene. It doesn’t help that she has zero sex appeal.
Among the most overrated films ever, along with To Kill A Mockingbird…don’t get me started.

Bogart leaves me cold, especially now that I know he was a communist. Casablanca is a good, if not great, film. I think Ingrid Bergman’s close-ups are as delectable as Vivien Leigh’s and Terri Garr’s (I’ve seen them all on BIG theater screens).
What I like about the movie are the Sidney Greenstreet and Claude Rains characters. And then there’s mmmmm Joy Page, (the Bulgarian girl), who made as much of an impression on me as Haya Harareet did in Ben Hur.

BFH,
Opinions about movies are subjective. Either you like them, or you don’t. As for me, I like “Casablanca”. Get over it.
If people want to piss away their money on “memorobilia”, that’s THEIR business.
Besides, shouldn’t we focus on more important things?

There’s no accounting for taste…unless you feel your guy card is on the line. Personally I’m too old to care about that.

Conservatives respect the free market and people’s right to spend their own money as they please. That quote sounds like it was lifted from Huffpo or DU. Be ashamed.

Casablanca is one of my favorites…. I’ve seen it hundreds of times…. a good movie, a good story, they say it’s a very small piano because Bogey was short. Also loved Love Is A Many Splendid Thing and often wondered about the hill behind the hospital where they used to meet , I was at that hospital in Kowloon but I never saw the wind-swept tree!

I’m with you, Fur. Producers had a hell of a time keeping a writer. They went through so many screenwriters and it shows. It’s choppy with very little continuity and flow.

“You must remember this …”
I got over that crap about movies portraying some sort of eternal truth about 30 years ago. Most of em are just baloney that allows you some time to not think about how the country’s turned to shit.

The only thing I remember about Casablanca was meeting there in January 1943 with Churchill and General de Gaulle. The General kept farting all through the meetings and blaming it on the Vichy water.

It is a decent movie. Probably not a true classic, like Buckaroo Banzai, but okay for it’s time.

If you ever got a message like the letter the character Rick gets while he’s on the train platform in the rain, you “get” this movie. You got to have had “your insides kicked out” emerging from suicidal and homicidal rage to “doing the right thing” just because that’s what real men do. Then its a powerful movie, otherwise I guess its just another sappy love story. Completely unremarkable

Oh gimme a break! WHERE and WHEN did BFH say “you can’t buy this piano because ____?”
I wouldn’t stop a guy from buying a $17 dollar apple from Harry & David, but I’m sure as shit gonna talk about his dumb ass. lol.
