Children, gunman dead in Conn. elementary school shooting

Home - by - December 14, 2012 - 18:10 America/New_York - 140 Comments

Update 5pm et

The reports have been all wrong, including my own. Everyone is posting the photos of Ryan Lanza, who, may very well be alive and be the brother of the actual shooter, Adam Lanza.

Adam Lanza is the 20 year-old. His brother, Ryan Lanza, is the 24 year-old and is reportedly in custody being questioned. The mother has been killed. She worked at the school where the shooting took place. She, obviously, didn’t report for work. The shooter gained access to the locked down school and shot and killed 25 people – 18 children.

There is still some confusion about a 3rd crime scene in Hoboken, NJ. Hoboken is currently crawling with police. This was confirmed with people on the ground over there.

Early reports which stated the shooter was the father of one of the students seems to be entirely wrong.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
27 dead including 18 children.
Look for the 2nd amendment arguments to begin. Costass to weigh in soon,
Update:
DID FOX POST A PICTURE OF THE WRONG LANZA?
The shooter is ADAM LANZA!!!!
There is a Ryan Lanza who lives in Hoboken, as reported, and went to the same elementary school where the shooting took place who is updating the Facebook page and saying it isn’t him.
This is strange. The url says the name is different. – https://www.facebook.com/brad.jockjennings
Is this guy screwing with the media?
Update: Shooter- is Adam Lanza  brother of Ryan Lanza
Shooter dead.  *24 year-old guy with “ties” to the school – father of student?
Principal dead.
Woman found dead in nearby home. Speculation is that this is the mother.
Shooter is 24 year-old Ryan Adam Lanza.
*updates for accuracy as information comes in
    The black caucus: a stink bomb.
    The IRS: is just a tool. Guns don’t kill people by themselves and the IRS doesn’t make tax law.
    The Senate: Not all of ‘em, just a key three or four, particularly Harry Reid.
    The push for gun bans will become inbearable…but the left will succeed. Result will be increased massacres like this because as guns diminish in society, those planning massacres will have more opportunities.
    Expect a total gun/ammo ban within 4 years….but skyrocketing gun violence.
    Some people wonder “Why.”
    We have lived in a culture of death for over 40 years. Life is cheap. It is no longer revered.
    Children are no longer a gift from God. They are parasites.
    You don’t want new life in your comfy life? Easy. Abort (kill) it.
    You don’t want to become pregnant? Easy. Take
    the newest mind and body altering drug and you won’t become pregnant. Condoms- the equivalent of using a dildo…any way you do it, you’re not open to the gift of new life.
    Had abortions? Forced someone else into an abortion? Forget about it. Use pot or booze and it will put you in a better mood and help you forget your transgressions.
    Plain Jane you nailed it. I don’t care if I sound like a (gasp) social conservative, but we have create a culture where the things that make us a civil society are crumbling — the family is all but destroyed in the black community and on shaking ground everywhere else, our schools no longer are permitted to teach right & wrong because it wouldn’t be “inclusive” or politically correct. We advocate abortion like it’s just laser hair removal. We have banished God from the public square and from our culture.
    But no, the hew & cry will be to ban guns because GUNS are the problem, not our moral rot.
    Here’s what I replied to a moron blaming the guns.
    ***********
    Except that guns AREN’T to blame. We all heard of the Kansas City Chiefs player that killed his girlfriend and himself and then had to listen to Bob Costas impart his anti-constitutional “wisdom” of banning guns on us all. A week later, a Dallas Cowboy player got drunk, got into an accident with his car, and killed a teammate who was riding with him.
    Please tell me ZXCV54321, which should we ban now? Cars? The drunk was using one. So obviously it must have been the fault of the car. And buying a car is a lot easier than buying a gun. You do have to register cars but that’s because SCOTUS ruled they can be used by a criminal to get them to a different jurisdiction quickly, so a state has the power to force car registration for police purposes. In some instances they’re cheaper and are just as numerous as guns. How about if we just ban every car under a certain length; we could call them “Saturday Night Crusin’ Specials.”
    The football player was also drunk. Should we ban alcohol? Because nothing bad happened the last time we tried that. Right?
    Maybe we should ban football, since both killers were football players. Let’s see. With no NFL, the number of young black men on the unemployment rolls would increase and the number of young black men going to college would decrease. Do you want that?
    SCOTUS affirmed that the 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms means that every citizen in this country has a right to a firearm for personal defense. That was done through two rulings; District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago. If you don’t like that, too bad. It is a constitutional right. Just like abortion.
    What happened in CT is a tragedy. But don’t you dare blame guns. They are merely the instrument that a deranged mind used. When a deranged Hitler ordered the genocide of the Jews, he did so with a stroke of a pen. Should we ban all writing implements? No. We rightly teach that Hitler was a genocidal socialist dictator. We should also teach that the CT gunman was disturbed somehow and he took his aggression out on the innocent — just like Hitler.
    It’s not the implement, it’s the user.
    Makes you wonder how many people called out for God in the wake of this tragedy. 2012 marks 50 years since the Supreme Court removed the 10 Commandments from the public square and prayer from school. For me this is so simple, God has been removed from the moral fiber of our nation and the devil just stepped in to take his place–and is having a field day in the process. There are people, especially our young, who have absolutely no concept of right or wrong, no concept of personal responsibility, just do whatever you feel like it–sex it up with whomever, whatever, whenever, kill, steal, lie, cheat–consequences be damned.
    It’s been reported that this guy was a parent of one of the children and his own child may be one of the victims. And, the body they found in his home was in fact his mother. It’s beyond sad.
    I know that we all MEAN that and have said a prayer for them, but not too much in these comments.
    I suspect it is because we know what is happening. We know that the press will get so much wrong about this shooting. They’ve already got the wrong perp. That the liberals will demand gun bans and the press will agree. We will be inundated with anti-gun and anti-rights propaganda. I’ll bet the godless socialists even say something like, “These children were looking forward to, but will never have another Christmas.” Which is true. But not because of guns — because of a deranged psychopath.
    In the beginning of Red Storm Rising, author Tom Clancy has the Soviet gov’t commit a detestable crime against it’s children as a form of a masquerade. Knowing that the children from the Young Octoberists would be near the Politburo offices, the offices were bombed and some of the children died. A West German was accused of the crime which led to a Soviet attack against NATO.
    Conspiracy? It has to linger in the back of your mind because of programs like Fast and Furious. Socialists do not care about human life. And using children, even dead children, to further their aims is not inconceivable.
    I wonder about two things: 1) since assault weapons and large magazine pistols have been around for decades what has happened to our culture to cause these massacres (that’s semi-rhetorical) and 2) how can we protect ourselves from the government after they take our guns?
    I laid next to my son this afternoon when I put him down for his nap and thought “WTF kind of world have I left for this child to inherit?”
    Then I went on my local news station’s website and sure enough, there was already some long-winded rant in the comment section about America’s “gun culture” and how “gun advocates love guns more than children”. Lots of “ban guns for the children” sort of crap with the conceit that an unarmed society is, by default, peaceful. “Gun control is a must for a peaceful and safe society” read one such missive. And I thought about how the most brutal, murderous regimes of the past century have had gun control except for the people who “needed” guns and how well that played out for the unarmed. China, Germany, the Soviet Union, Cambodia…?
    For that matter, how many “peaceful, safe and unarmed” nations still maintain armed police and military forces? Isn’t it usually the case that even in the most “peaceful and safe” little European socialist faux-democracies still maintain forces of armed government employees? Heck, for that matter, how many of the world’s top firearms manufacturers are based in Western Europe? (answer: A whole lot of ‘em!)
    So, fair enough…. By tomorrow, if not this evening, Obama will be calling for vast, sweeping controls on firearms ownership. Obama’s numerous supporters will whole-heartedly support this action. And I will agree, contingent on two absolutely iron-clad guarantees from them.
    -First, that ALL guns and ammunition must be done away with, starting with those possessed by the government. Not one military, police or government agent/employee of any kind may be armed with a firearm or be able to obtain them before any single civilian is required to disarm.
    -Second, that peace and safety must be absolute and permanent for all time. Any single incident of mass violence will automatically negate the contract, with civilians getting to rearm first, before government.
    That should work out just fine, right? ;)
    It’s time for the government to utilize the armed citizen militia. Just like the volunteer fire fighters, we need a system of trained volunteer armed citizens to patrol school grounds every day. If I were retired (or when I retire), I’d easily volunteer to be there for 2 hours a day. All it would take is a small group of dedicated people working short shifts at each school.     Barry sez:
    “We’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.”
    That means compromise people. Along the lines of the type of compromise we’re seeing out of the White House with the fiscal cliff problem.
    @FreedomCat
    Nobody knows but I’d bet an immediate ban on sales of whatever gets classified as an assault weapon (and don’t you think they’ll say any weapon ever used in an assault is an ‘assault weapon’?) and any high capacity magazines. The sales ban would probably be followed by a “voluntary” turn in and buy back program at the local police station in the near future.
    That was the carrot. Then comes the stick. Searches and severe penalties for anyone not turning in the restricted items. (and they do have records) If you claim to have lost the weapons you’ll have to sign an affidavit to that effect. Then if they find it later you’re in deep shit. If you’re caught with any banned items after a set date it’s straight to the pokey. We’re about to become Britain.
    Then the price of all ammo goes up and they start targeting other weapons. It’s the same approach as the 2% tax – start at the top and work your way down. This approach gets rid of the most effective weapons first – which really is the point when you’re trying to disarm the public.
    Betcha there’s more gun and ammo sales tomorrow than any other day in history. Of course this is all supposition and I own no guns myself other than two antique shotguns without any shells.
    The U.K. has very tight gun control laws.
    Here’s what happened in Australia:
    The National Firearms Agreement banned all semi-automatic rifles and all semi-automatic and pump-action shotguns, and created a tightly restrictive system of licensing and ownership controls. Because the Australian Constitution prevents the taking of property without just compensation the Federal Government introduced the Medicare Levy Amendment Act 1996 that provided the revenue for the National Firearms Program through a one-off 0.2% increase in the Medicare levy. Known as the gun buy-back scheme, it started across the country on the 1 October 1996 and concluded on the 30 September 1997 to purchase and destroy all semi-automatic rifles including .22 rimfires, semi-automatic shotguns and pump-action shotguns. The buyback was predicted to cost A$500 million and had wide community support.
    The cultural marxists interpret the constitutional right to own and use guns pejoratively as “a gun culture” and “a culture of violence” without discrimination. And just as that excellent American Thinker piece asserts about Leftists, facts do not matter.
    If you’re not currently a member of the NRA, it wouldn’t hurt to join. There’s strength in numbers and the dues-paying members have been bearing most of the weight of gun rights for a very long time.
    Like everything else on the Left’s agenda, it does no good whatsoever to argue an issue on its merits or its constitutionality. With a Leftist president, cabinet and senate in addition to a Leftist cadre of “czars”, it’s all about numbers and if there is no concerted effort to resist the official Left, we will lose our gun rights. When that goes, forget the constitution altogether.
    I have to say what struck me most was this picture of the kids and the cop. It disturbed me the moment I first saw it this morning. Now that I’ve had a chance to examine it, I know why. First the cop doesn’t look like a cop, she looks like a school teacher. I didn’t know it was a cop at first, until I noticed the writing on her jacket. She looks as scared as the kids. Not exactly instilling confidence in those poor kids. Then there’s the kids. What’s this putting your arms on the kid in front of you? It’s just wrong. Something about it is wrong. It’s too “sheep” like for me. You don’t have your hands available to protect yourself. When we filed out for fire drills in grade school, we simply followed the person in front of us. We didn’t need to put our arms on their back. It’s like looking at a physical expression of the saying “can’t find their ass with their own two hands.” It’s demeaning. And the poor girl in the blue shirt is screaming. She’s crying her heart out. Can’t the cops pull her aside for just a minute? Can’t someone give her a hug?
