Why Do Leftists Ignore Detroit? It’s Their Socialist and Moral Vision
Detroit faces obligations over the next six months that exceed its revenues by $47 million. The city, the Free Press reported, now pays $1.08 in benefits to municipal workers and retirees for every $1.00 it pays in salary.
What happened to Detroit? It is achieving socialism in one city.
Traditional two-parent families and the productive taxpaying citizens they produce have fled. In 1950, according the U.S. Census Bureau, Detroit had 1,849,568 people and was the fifth-largest city in the nation. By 2000, its population had dropped to 951,270; by 2010, to 713,777; and by 2011, to 706,585.
What has happened to the people who remain? The Census Bureau estimates there are 563,055 people age 16 or older in the city who could potentially work and be part of the labor force. But only 54.3 percent of these — or 305,479 individuals — actually do participate in the labor force, meaning they either have a job or are looking for one.
Another 257,576 of Detroit residents age 16 or older — 45.7 percent of that demographic — do not participate in the labor force. They do not have a job, and they are not looking for one.

yesterday i posted that we should just write off detroit. I think it is beyond saving. I jokingly suggested we give it to Canada, but the Canuks reading that did not want it either. So back to the drawing board. how about leveling it, digging it out making the Detroit river a lake with lots of valuable lake front property? Keep the airport I fly out of it once in awhile.
Anyone else know what to do with a city that only 8% of the 8th graders can functionally read?

Fur, I charge you to create a faux propaganda short film “Detroit: Welcome to Progressive Paradise” resplendent with the cheesy short film music, lots and lots of footage of crumbling, hideous Detroit while a voice over guy praises the wonders of the progressive agenda and the success story that is Detroit. Make sure to end it with that nitwit common council lady demanding Obama bail them out.
Oh, and you’ll have to make it for free since I ain’t paying you.

I think it should include the actual mechanics of how it degraded.
You know, “After this ordinance was passed this bad thing started to increase in frequency and cost” Along with an example of both how it happened there and how it went different elsewhere with conservative principles guiding things.
That way you can walk them right up to your conclusion and have them come to it on their own.
Otherwise it’ll be he said she said and labeled as hyperbolic propaganda, The truth behind the shocking state of the city needs to be clear so it can change.
If done well enough it could be a new factual statement that can’t be argued against – like the sun is hot kinda thing.
Maybe one day when a God-awful prog idea gets put forth we’ll just have to say: “What? Like Detroit?” and the point will be made.

We outsource jobs overseas; let’s outsource Detroiters. Print up pamphlets advertising ‘Free cruise’. Dock in Shanghai and let them out. Tell Deng Xiaoping not to send them back until they’ve worked off our debt…with interest,

Ignore basic economic principles, refuse to demand any personal responsibility from anyone, demand that government and unions control that which they did not build, reward government workers in excess of what they contribute, and encourage the breakdown in family and morality – and the productive members of that society leave for somewhere else. Who could have possibly seen that coming?

I disagree with Beck because the issue is not “Love”, but contract law. Early state sanctioned marriages were used primarily to recognize family units and for the disbursements of property after the death of an individual to the next of kin. The states then set in various laws regulating who you could or could not marry not only for this reason but social reasons such as (not marrying under a certain age and limiting it to relations of a certain distance i.e. sisters and cousins.
The problem today is benefits. If you define marriage as love (the state does not care if you love someone) then you open the doors to polygamy, close relational marriages (two brothers) all for the sake of obtaining benefits for their spouse who they love. Are we to force employers (or is the government) to pay benefits to anyone just because they are “married”? How many spouses are allowed? Would if I love more than one person, don’t they get benefits? I love my brother or sister, can we get married and get the same benefits, after all, we love each other. The states, not the federal government regulates such contracts. If the federal government mandates it, the you have a huge gap for forcible benefit payments that were initially meant to take care of offspring, not the surviving spouse.

To me, polgamy has history going way back so it’s not some never-before edgy thing. It has valid uses too. It isn’t about sex but instead – family.
I think the door swings wide open for polygamy if gay marriage is accepted.
I’m saying a strong argument can be made for it at that time. It’s been forbidden here but it’s been tradition for for some for much, much longer.

Watching the propaganda bureaus ignore and obfuscate Detroit’s socialist collapse is expository of the Left’s moral vacuum, its true Marxist agenda.
Just disappear them comrade Stalin. What is this Detroit of which you speak tovarisch?

The answer is going to be a State take-over and finally putting responsible governance in place to try to save what’s worth salvaging. They will need to appoint a good city manager with no political baggage and give that person cart blanche to lay-off, reorganize and shrink the city down to a manageable level. Given the violent nature of the left, Governor Snyder is going to have send in the National Guard, impose curfew and impose martial law.
Say, once the city is bankrupt, won’t that void all the various labor contracts? That would mean a fresh start on hiring, promotion and firing. Start at City Hall and just fire every elected position. Hire lots of accountants and go over the books. Then start issuing the subpoenas and arrest warrants for all those blood sucking leeches who have been protecting each other while they steal from the people.
You talk about there being blood flowing in Michigan and you can mix it with the tears from the socialist losers. Yep, time to grab the loose end of the Band-Aid and give’er a good hard yank, before the whole thing dies in its own rotten gangrenous stink of a once great city.

I have no problem with them declaring bankruptcy; with appointing a new city manager to go over the books; with firing everyone and starting again.
As long as they say, in every presser, that the root cause of every problem in Detroit is the underlying socialism of high taxes and too much spending coupled with city-wide corruption in the democrat party that has had a strangle-hold on Detroit since the mid 1960s.
If they say anything else, the democrat cockroaches will just scurry away, waiting for the time when someone turns out the lights again.

Simple! Liberals are all about good intent, and that makes them “feel good”. They don’t give a rats ass about facts, results or history of their lame brain schemes — that they insanely insist we pay for / attempt over and over again compulsively.
You can rub a liberals nose in their own dog shit, and they just say its anecdotal, even though the evidence is clearly systemic.
Its the same thing with global warming, CO2 levels have been rising at a steady linear clip for dozens of years but we average global temperatures have been flat for the last 16 years!
Its all about warm and fuzzy, save the earth, save the polar bears, save the poor misunderstood fuzzy Jihadists, and I know I’m preaching to the choir, but its cathartic!!!
