Curmudgeon alert:
High school photography teacher? Must have been a so-called “School of the Arts” to justify a dedicated slot at the HS level. And therein is the problem I have with Schools of the Arts as substitutes for high school education: the sciences get short-changed, as evidenced in this supposedly otherwise intelligent woman’s ignorance of the LAWS OF PHYSICS which cost her her life.

Why didn’t she do what they do in hollyweird when they film things coming straight at the camera? They put a mirror in front of the object and film from an angle so the camera and crew are safely to one side. This way, she would not have had to stand on any set of tracks for her photo.
A sociologist should study her current group of students and see which ones die in stupid (preventable) accidents involving cameras and taking photos. In other words, they will have learned nothing.

When my uncle was with the occupation forces in Japan, after the late unpleasantness, he stepped out of the way of the train he saw and into the path of one he didn’t.
Apparently Japanese marshalling yards had little room for error.
