Chilly D’s Serves “Fat Girls”

Home - by - December 9, 2012 - 17:04 America/New_York - 30 Comments

The dinner bill for three friends at Chilly D’s Restaurant stung, but it wasn’t the price – printed on the top of the receipt were the words “Fat Girls”.
“I got the bill, I was looking at bill [and] I was like, ‘Why does this receipt say ‘fat girls?’” customer Christine Duran said.
When Duran asked a manager for an explanation, he “had like a smirk on his face, like it was funny but trying not to laugh,” she said.

The dining experience went from bad to worse when the restaurant demanded they still pay the bill, offering them a 25 percent discount and then a 50 percent discount. They declined both offers.

    @Jethro, exactly.
And their “TriTip” order doesn’t sound like a “diet” meal.

    …and that NOT-TO-BE-SPELLED-OUT-”N/WORD”-FOR-NEGROIDISH-TYPE-FOLKS…

“Fat” and “girl” are simply a matter of *F*A*C*T*.

Obviously, they don’t see themselves as fat, or girls.

I don’t see what the big issue is?

Wait staff see a lot of faces, people make up visual cues or mnemonic techniques all the time.

If you’re fat, you ARE fat. Either do something about it or else deal with it, because everyone you deal with thinks the same thing; “Fat Girl.”

Wait staff deal with the public and it is inappropriate, especially if you want customers to return. Why any company would allow a “free speech” line to appear on any receipt is beyond me.

But this is more a ploy for a payout than anything else. The fat girls demanded the bill be free and wouldn’t accept a 50% discount. So they paid and are probably grieving right now by the $1000′s every minute.

    WWMD? [What would Mooch do?]

Shouldn’t she and the Preezy have a french fry summit or something? Aren’t these young women examples of the very thing Mooch is stripping our rights away to prevent? Shouldn’t Congress ban the word ‘fat’?

Pictures and names of the women diners are here:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2245158/Christine-Duran-check-Women-diners-furious-check-comes-FAT-GIRLS-written-top.html

Yes, all 3 women are overweight. However, their receipt shows they did not all eat a hugely gluttonous meal. Was JEFF the server miffed these fat ladies didn’t order more? Did these ladies deserve to be held in so much disdain by restaurant staff solely because they carry too many extra pounds? Why did this server even care that these women are overweight? Are fat people his only target for ridicule? What about handicapped people? Elderly? Ethnicities different than himself? People undergoing chemotherapy? Anorexics? Dwarfs?

Whatever happened to common courtesy? Professional politeness? And plain old discretion? Why not just snark to his coworkers about the 3 fat ladies in the kitchen area? Or just wait until they dined, paid their bill and left to snark all he wanted. Oh, that wouldn’t have been a good idea, because one of the cooks may have been related to one or all of these women!! Basically, this JEFF character is a disgusting coward.

And the manager has only suspended JEFF. Economy must be doing pretty good there in Stockton (sarc) because this manager just made sure these 3 clients will never come back. There’s a good bet none of their friends and family will frequent this establishment either. Great way to do business, eh?

I wonder if they would have been offend if the wait staff had used a different description.

    For Example

    Buffet Beauties
    Frequent Dinners
Will Buy Me that New Boat
    Kitchen Closers
    Feedbaggers
    Hoover Floor Models
    Friends of Jenny Craig
Crisco Gals (i.e. fat in the can)
    Heffers

Now that I think about the wait staff wasn’t very creative were they?

I was composing my comment about this story while all you guys were posting comments. Obviously we see this story through differently lenses. But I won’t be going all ‘Ginger’ on you.

And there is nothing in this story that led me to believe these women went in to that restaurant planning to get a free meal. Did they force JEFF to type in FatGirls right after they placed their order so they could use that as an excuse to complain and lobby for a free meal? I think not.

So JEFF is now to be lauded for being incredibly rude by pointing out to these woman that they were fat on the night they dined at that restaurant? How gallant of him.

Jeff was not professional, and you’re right Dr Tar – he should be much more creative. I’m not in the food service industry, but if I were, I would have a field day with personal and inscrutable codes.

xavier’s video showed the trophy collector’s predictable tears @1:32.

If you’re not adult enough to take an accurate description or deal with rudeness at large in a manner other than running to the media, maybe you shouldn’t be let out of the house.

Sure it was rude of Jeff, and if I were in those women’s place I’d raise hell too. On the other hand, these women are probably aware that they’re ahem fat. There’s little tip offs like the industrial strength bathroom scale, the size tags in clothes, and the weekly grocery bill. ‘Fat’ isn’t the equivalent of the N-word for overweight people; it’s an everyday term and I’m fairly certain one these women hear regularly. The whole faux outrage is a ploy for sympathy, attention, and maybe a few dineros. (that’s Spanish for dollars, not dinners, but use whichever works for you)

In this New Age of ObamaCare we will have to take a greater interest in the dietairy habits and personal choices (smoking, drinking, risky sexual behavior) of our fellow Americans. Once we are either all in the “state exchanges” or more likely “single payer” health insurance the overwieght will be public enemy #1.

It won’t be your employer or insurer anymore monitoring your behavior and putting incentives in place to get you to live healthier. It will be Big Brother who has guns, tanks, etc. that will be seek to modify the behavior of citizens in order to save cost on health insurance. The programs they will put in place will make Moosechelle’s school lunch crusade seem quant by camparison.

Now some may argue that its for the best that Big Government get’s us all to take better care of ourselves. I say its fascist, totalitarian and a tremendous infringement on liberty and freedom.

    @Dr Tar said,

“It won’t be your employer or insurer anymore monitoring your behavior and putting incentives in place to get you to live healthier.”

Yeah, it will be countless JEFF’s dotted all around America wearing the Obysmal provisioned brown shirts gleefully marking up receipts and all kinds of forms with negative designations of all kinds about anyone for whom the government does not see as pertinent to the maintenance of its cause.

What you are all failing to acknowledge with this particular story is that JEFF has already volunteered himself as one of Obysmal’s brown shirted thugs and you are all in agreement that JEFF had every right, perhaps even a duty to inform these woman that they were fat by typing it onto a receipt that the government can and probably will look at any time they wish. This is not about JEFF being an obnoxious jerk and telling these women to their faces he thinks they are fat. Were that the story here, I wouldn’t be arguing my point so vociferously. This incident with JEFF has so much more an ominous tone to it than any of you are willing to acknowledge. In fact, you are all playing along with it!!!

It has greatly saddened and dismayed me that you all aren’t seeing the bigger picture here. Right now, ‘fatness’ is just the easiest target. Why should the likes of JEFF and his ilk stop at typing in connotations of fatness on receipts and documents? They won’t. This is only the beginning. It will grow into an ugly, ugly thing. When these marxists bastards convince us all not to stand up for common decency and civility we are truly done as a nation. In fact, I guess we are done. :-(

An employee of mine representing my business in such a matter would find themselves at the unemployment line, right along side the manager.

Yes, this fat thing that “adults” our so predisposed with. Was puzzling for me, also. Until you go threw the litany. People of the Bible feel you should work hard and if some one is fat then it equates to laziness, Progressive (whom like using the Bible for to their propaganda) believe fat people are a detriment to the collective. New age? “Your body is a temple…”.
So.. why diversity when everyone could look like a goddess.

I think the manager, instead of offering 25% or 50% off, should have said, “Here’s Jeff. I’ll let you work it out with him.”

-Pretty certain the headline would be different.

    @Stache
Said manager told these women that JEFF had gone home, shift over. Are you suggesting these women should have physically assaulted JEFF as their way of ‘working it out’?

And are you also suggesting every comment I posted here about this incident has no meaning or offers no sound warnings to us all about what this sort of ill behavior towards our fellow citizens is really all about?

This incident was not the first of its kind. I recall seeing another story like this where a restaurant server added a slur onto a receipt directed at a young, female Asian patron. Is that a lesser, similar or worse thing to do than adding a ‘fat’ snark to a receipt? Will we all snicker and laugh when it is reported next that a server has added a snark about a Jewish patron on a receipt? Or something about a turban directed at a Seikh patron? Or a derogatory notation on the receipt of a cerebral palsy patron?

Why is this necessary? The fat person knows they are fat. An Asian knows she is Asian. A Jew is aware of their Jewisness. The Seikh is aware he wears a turban. And a cerebral palsy person knows they have cerebral palsy.

If our society roundly accepts this kind of insidious treatment of our fellow man in this subtle form of selective mean-spiritedness, I guarantee we will all soon be seeing certain ‘classes’ of people being forced to wear some sort of designated symbol on their person not much different than the German Jews were forced to wear a Star of David on their clothing.

We can laugh this off at our peril. But I assure you, the evil ones are paying close attention to how our society reacts to this insidious stuff. They ARE taking notes. And making files. And WILL take this to the next level soon while we all yuck it up at the fat lady’s expense.

I’m saying that the manager did his best to convey an apology for an action he did not initiate, and the ladies refused the apology.

Perhaps Jeff needed to be held accountable directly. An apology from him may have resolved the incident.
