“This is painful for a liberal to admit, but conservatives have a point when they suggest that America’s safety net can sometimes entangle people in a soul-crushing dependency.” – NY Times Writer Nicholas Kristof

It’s as if we’ve been talking to a wall for decades.

NY Slimes -

THIS is what poverty sometimes looks like in America: parents here in Appalachian hill country pulling their children out of literacy classes. Moms and dads fear that if kids learn to read, they are less likely to qualify for a monthly check for having an intellectual disability.

Many people in hillside mobile homes here are poor and desperate, and a $698 monthly check per child from the Supplemental Security Income program goes a long way — and those checks continue until the child turns 18.

“The kids get taken out of the program because the parents are going to lose the check,” said Billie Oaks, who runs a literacy program here in Breathitt County, a poor part of Kentucky. “It’s heartbreaking.”

WOW, just WOW. $698 per child in addition to foodstamps, free healthcare no doubt. Poor my fucking ass, lets see their homes (pigsties), the cable tv, the video consoles, parents with their ciggs, and drinks, lottery tickets. MY ASS this is heartbreaking. The fucking parent’s are putting their check above their child’s education. I know what poor is and this ain’t poor it is a middle class lifestyle of the 70′s and 80′s.

“Sometimes Entangle people”??!! What a doucebag. This is generational welfare foisted upon people (black, red and white) by liberal Democrats in order to defeat their spirit and turn them into a voting block of grey, lifeless drones that can be counted on to vote for them. If you want to do something for your country, smack a liberal Dem in the face today. Better yet, start firing them from their jobs. Give them a taste of the world they’ve created for tens of millions of Americans.

I’m with you, Pearl Clutcher. I read $698 per kid and went, “Yoiks! Missed my calling. I should have been popping out kids as soon as I could!”

Just kidding, but dayum, $698/mo per kid. Sheeeeuuuuute!

This isn’t necessarily about money, although that is important, but about the mind set. These kids are now the subject of a cost/benefit analysis – if I have a kid, can I collect more welfare against the child than it costs to keep him/her alive? I find this more disturbing than the amount of the check.

We were reading about kids in certain inner city schools that were not looking forward to the holiday season. Why? Because they go hungry on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and at least the schools feed them once or twice a day when in session. You know that these families are collecting food stamp benefits, but they are not bothering to minimally feed their kids? This is criminal.

Throw money at these folks, collect their votes every two years, and forget about them. How compassionate.

Talking to a wall. Exactly. Of course they would use Appalachia where it’s mostly white people. Not in their own backyard and the more numerous dependent slugs who might be colored. Or the dependent liberal whites who might have a retarded brother on disability.

This should look bad to anyone, it should not be a conservative or liberal stance. Why are we looking past the fraud involved and placing blame on a liberals. The blame should be on the idiots that are doing this stupid stuff. Im a liberal and it looks like complete abuse and taking advantage of the kindness of our society. I would love to say this is the exception not the rule, but I dont know if I can.
