DeMint Resigning From Senate
Washington (CNN) – Republican Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina will resign from his Senate seat as of Dec. 31 to take over as head of the Heritage Foundation, his office announced Thursday.

“It’s been an honor to serve the people of South Carolina in United States Senate for the past eight years, but now it’s time for me to pass the torch to someone else and take on a new role in the fight for America’s future,” he said in a statement.

I am very sorry to see him go. He is a true blue conservative and a gracious man.

We are losing a conservative warrior. Question is is he so frustrated by the go along to get along RINOs or does he think he can accomplish more from the outside?

Ohio Dan, many billionaires and millionaires gave to Romney/GOP because of Heritage. Heritage can do a lot more arm twisting to push the Conservative agenda than a single senator can.

Sheesh, he’s about as close as you can get to irreplaceable-you’d think SC would be churning out a steady stream of conservatives but than you look at their other Senator.

Whew! For a second there, I thought he’d been hiking the Appalachian Trail.

When this popped up on my phone, I was (still am) sick to my stomach. I wonder who Nikki Haley will appoint–Joe Wilson, Tim Scott, herself? I understand his decision especially seeing what Boehner is doing to the conservatives in the house (I am sure the same environment exists in the senate).

When you know you can do better with another organization, one must get tired of continuing to play for the losing team.

Jim Demint is on Rush right now and he just got done saying Harry Reid is his good friend. How in the hell, on God’s green earth can this possibly be. With that one statement I think less of him. Harry Reid is the goddamn enemy!

Demint is sticking to his pledge to serve this as his last term. He, unlike The Establishment, made a pledge he is keeping.
We were looking for a national contender for the Conservative Party/ies…Hmmmm

Sorry to see DeMint go, but the Senate is, under Harry Reid and for all intents and purposes, useless at best and dangerous at worst. DeMint is a conservative, and probably feels that he can advance conservative principles better at Heritage – and he may be right.

Tim Scott. Please. Pretty please.
This helps out Lindsey Lightinhisloafers, as both he and whoever replaces DeMint would be up for re-election in ’14.

I am very sorry to lose DeMint as a senator – but oh so happy to see the Heritage Foundation torch being passed to a man of his caliber. I agree with the others that he probably feels he can effect more change this way.

Warning-Nerd Alert!
I had occasion to watch the all six of the Star Wars movies in order recently with my teenaged kids (in other words, starting with the dreadful Phantom Menace and moving through to the dreadful Ewok-infested #6) and the parallels through the arc of the series to our current situation are really quite striking.
In particular, note how endlessly plodding and boring all of the negotiations and machinations of the Senate are, while all the while Palpatine, seeming to all the world a sane and conscientious leader, slowly whips the Universe into such a frenzy while hiding in plain sight that of course, the only answer becomes killing the Republic and consolidating all power in him as the Emperor.
Not to take this analogy too far, but if I was a Conservative Jedi in Washington, I’d clear out like Master DeMint. The purge is here.

I’m sure that he and Gov. Haley have had many conversations about this. I think I can trust her to pick a good replacement.
I agree with a couple of posters above, that it must have been frustrating for Sen. DeMint to be operating in the leftist morass that is the U.S. Senate. However, he’s worked hard to get several more conservatives in there; for that alone, his time there has been far more successful than most.
I’ll support DeMint in anything he does, and I love Heritage. Good match!

Rush had DeMint on air today, and DeMint emphasized how the Heritage Foundation influenced him to run in the first place.

Rush asked a question if he felt he was being pushed out by boehner ad DeMint laughed and said something like…no, it should be the other way around. Good one. Bless ya, and all the best.

Honorable Jim DeMint is just that. He is honorable and will not (Obama word) besmirch his fellow senators, even if it’s Hairy Reid.
