So Disappointed.
Mr. Mock and I have been supporters of the Wounded Warrior Project for quite some time. You’ve probably seen the ads on TV. Here’s the one that got to me the most.
Anyone who’s met Junior Mock probably knows why – it’s because Alan is like the grown up version of Junior. Seriously. This commercial just KILLS ME.
So we were happy to set up a monthly contribution to the WWP, and have supported them for over a year now.
But today, I read this. And I’m just CRUSHED, you guys.
It turns out, WWP refuses to have anything to do with any organization which is associated with guns, or gun ownership. They were invited onto the Gun Talk Radio show, and declined the invitation. The entire email exchange, a MUST READ, is at the sourcelink.

Maybe Bob Costas will step up to the plate….

I have supported them as well, but I just sent them a tweet saying I will find another outlet to support our wounded heroes. They reference a disclaimer on their website that I feel does not apply to this interview. There is no cobranding, marketing or receipt of proceeds with/from a gun manufacturer involved here. Disappointing.

I want to know if they’ve changed their stance on this:
“Our position regarding firearms and alcohol is in response to the struggles that many injured service members face with substance abuse and suicide and the roles those items often play in those issues.”
The backpedaling piece didn’t say a single word about this policy and until they give a complete explanation and admit they were wrong, fuck ‘em.

Ah, they replied saying that is not the case at all and that they have always supported the 2nd ammendment. Hmm.

Hope for the Warriors and Soldiers Angels are two great organizations that support veterans and wounded warriors.

Disappointment is the word, alright. It’s like the disappointment of one of the nastiest anti-firearm organizations being run by President Reagan’s press secretary.

Meh. Told them their reasoning made them sound like Costas.

Letting leftist politics get in the way of promoting help for wounded veterans. What self-serving bastards.

They’re scared and lying; they’re allied with the administration for fundraising and advertising and they just made themselves a lightning rod. WWP is either going to have to tacitly support Barry’s gun control agenda (which is what they were doing when they refused the radio show and spouted off leftist propaganda about the reason) or go pro-gun and try to recoup some of the vanishing donations.
That nambly-pambly bullshit they backpedaled with isn’t going to fool intelligent gun owners.
My bet: Barry buys them off with government funded “support” to offset lost pro-gun donations.

I was this close to making an automatic credit-card donation to Wounded Warriors. Thanks for posting this.

Sounds like the Susan Kommen people have found work in this branch of the philanthropy market.

Their response to my Costas crack:

When this originally happened, they first stood on their policy excluding weapons, alcohol, sex and a few other items they don’t want associated. Then someone pointed out that they seemed to have no problem with a fundraiser at the Playboy mansion. A flurry of distortion followed.

Donated to them last year and was planning on doing it again at the end of this year. This thread will make me reconsider.

Mrs. enraged and I have donated thousands of dollars to WWP over the past few years – and unfortunately have already sent them another $1K this year. That’ll be our last check to them. We also give to the Semper Fi fund, Fisher House and the USO. There are links to other good military charities posted in the main article. Thanks very much for posting this Cardigan and iOTW!
