Senate rejects United Nations treaty for disabled rights in a 61-38 vote
A United Nations treaty to ban discrimination against people with disabilities went down to defeat in the Senate on Tuesday in a 61-38 vote.
The treaty, backed by President Obama and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.), fell five votes short of the two-thirds majority needed for confirmation as dozens of Senate Republicans objected that it would create new abortion rights and impede the ability of people to homeschool disabled children.
Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) argued the treaty would infringe on U.S. sovereignty, an argument echoed by other opponents.
“This unelected bureaucratic body would pass recommendations that would be forced upon the United States if we were a signatory,” he said.

I bet I can prove the Democrats didn’t read the legislation:
Article 10 – Right to life
States Parties reaffirm that every human being has the inherent right to life and shall take all necessary measures to ensure its effective enjoyment by persons with disabilities on an equal basis with others.

Good.
We are a sovereign nation. Perhaps it would behoove President Obama and Senator Dole to remember that. We are not supposed to cede our sovereignty to the Muslim-Loving UN.

Any move to further strip the rights of parents over their own children SHOULD be voted down.

This treaty was HIDEOUS. Disabled babies born in the U.S. were to be immediately “registered.” One of the childrens’ rights under the treaty was to be acknowledged and raised by the birth parents.
This abomination was mainly meant to encourage eugenics. Abort the disabled or face a lawsuit if you’re not up to raising the child.
“Republican Sens. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), John Barrasso (Wyo.), Scott Brown (Mass.), Susan Collins (Maine), Dick Lugar (Ind.), John McCain (Ariz.), Olympia Snowe (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) voted with Democrats in favor of the treaty.”
Thanks, Repubes. Hitler and the “superior race” would be proud. And John Barrasso, M.D.! What a great humanitarian you turned out to be!

I had no idea what this was about today when my English professor mentioned it. He said it was wrong that we voted no on it, but since he is a college professor and they are more on the liberal side of things, I looked it up. I KNEW there was something he wasn’t telling me. I don’t believe in abortion. It is only supposed to be used in REAL life or death situations of the mother and/or child. These people are apparently trying for Hitlers ethnic cleansing as bitterclinger stated. I am have Tourette Syndrome and when I was a child my PARENTS were the ones that saw to the fact I got my rights, not the gov. Obumnuts can kiss my ass and let’s see what he says if Michelle aborts any child of theirs just because it’s disabled. >:( I’ve got news for the libturds, we disabled people have the right to life as well. It’s in the Constitution for crying out loud. (Not that they have actually read it).
