Random Thought
Lincoln was a… REPUBLICAN!?!
Last night, hubby and I went to see Lincoln. I am sitting in the somewhat crowded Western WA theatre and it hits me that…
1. I am surrounded by liberals.
2. The majority of the people seated near me voted for Obama.
3. My husband and I are the likely the few moviegoers here who know that Lincoln was a Republican-otherwise the theatre wouldn’t have been as crowded.
(I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.)

Why not wear a t-shirt to the Lincoln movie that says this?:
Lincoln was a… REPUBLICAN!?!

On liberals and “Lincoln”: I was at a Chinese Restaurant after one showing of the movie ended. At a table nearby were about five 20 something young people and two adults who looked to be in their 50′s. One young man said, “I can’t believe Lincoln was a Republican.” Another nodded knowingly and said, “Well the parties shifted. It was the Southern strategy.” I was paying my check at the time and said under my breath, “No they didn’t. Now it wasn;t” and when I got out the door I said “What a stupid liberal.” My 12 year old who is a conservative but is now at the stage where he’s embarrassed at a lot of things I do (Oh, joy; years more of this teen stuff! ;^) said, “I hope they didn’t hear what you said.” The problem is so many people don’t know that the Republican party was the party of civil rights for blacks and the Klan was a Democratic organization. I didn’t know the real history of the Dem party for years and I am a DINO who’s voted for Republicans since 2008.
I think I will take one of my liberal friends to the movie try to explain this to her.

I’m plagued with random thoughts. Here’s my latest. The current administration is a floater that just won’t flush.

@illustr8r,
The big question is:
Do movie goers come out of the theatre knowing Lincoln was a Republican?
Illustr8r
December 3rd, 2012
@Kairn Yes! There is no doubt and there are some quality insults about Democrats throughout. I was surprised actually.
I was looking for the line “…and some day a slave can grow up to be President.” To which the entire movie would have been ruined if it was said-but it wasnt-another surprise.
There is one scene (see pic above) that was close to being too much but that was it and was early in the movie.
I liked it a lot but I am a sucker for history shtuff.

Kairn,Illustr8r, Unfortunately 70% of the Liberal Progressive morons that walk out of that movie are saying, “Yea it was pretty good, but those dumb asses actually think Lincoln was a republican”. And, you’ll never convince them. They hear what they want to hear and shut the rest out.

At least Steven Spielberg did resist the temptation of a “we’re going to need a bigger hat” scene in Lincoln.

I loved it. FreeLady and I saw it last week.
I loved being in there and hearing the moans every time I cracked up at a democrat dig. Especially Thaddeus Stevens lines. When they try to get the guy to say Re pub li can, I was on the floor in a seizure.
I was asked 3 times to leave by some upitty snob. It was great.
Don’t wait, get out to see it. It is a 100% dem buster.

Going along with the ‘Random Thought’ — ever since 2008 when that massive stimulus was passed–the one where McCain dropped everything and ran back to DC to vote for it, I have felt like I look at the world through a camera lens that is slightly tilted. Like looking at life through an Alfred Hitchcock movie camera. I am many times struck by this feeling especially in grocery stores and I pray blessings on the children I see there for their safety in this world. Also when I see children walking down the street, I pray for blessings for them. I don’t know, I just feel like the safety of our lives have been ever altered and I have to say a little prayer in the strangest of places. Why grocery stores? Why paricularly people walking on sidewalks. OK, done with the randomness.

@Tuesday,
Your comment was spot on. As every year has passed since Obysmal came on the scene, I too have become acutely aware that I am now looking upon America and my fellow Americans through some kind of sad and strange lenses.
You made me realize that I find myself looking at little children too, the way you described. I can’t explain it, but the little children I encounter or observe who currently range between 3 and 6 years old strike me as extraordinary little people. I believe these are the warriors come on the scene who will be doing the heavy lifting in a titanic battle for freedom in the near future. I watch them with a heavy heart for knowing the deprivations and hardships they will surely suffer.
I wonder if adults sensed this same thing when observing the little children who eventually went off to fight WWII?

True, but Lincoln didn’t mess about with traitors trying to destroy America. He just slapped them in irons and waited for the war to hash itself out.
I think Jug Ears, to be truly compared to Lincoln, would have to arrest himself and then deport himself to Atlanta and await Sherman.
I dunno’. I just have a hard time raggin’ on the old rail splitter. However, I’d totally join in on poking fun at Mary Todd Lincoln.

Doesn’t take a genius to know that the parties shifted.
Today Lincoln would overwhelmingly be considered more of a Democrat than a Republican.

So, Abraham Lincoln wakes up from a 3 day drunk and says, “I freed who?”
AbigailAdams
December 4th, 2012
@Hooper — Yeah, that’s the reason all progtards give when talking about Lincoln or MLK, “The parties shifted.” It doesn’t take a genius to know that the roots of the Republican party predate the Repuplican party by about, oh, 2000+ years (see Cincinnatus, Cato, et al).

What rots that apple is that regardless of what anyone says, the Progtards have seen/heard Oboobie liken him/herself to Lincoln, so going forward Lincoln is Obama.
